Dancing with the Stars: Season 6 semi finals

Semi finals night on Dancing With the Stars, and all of the celebrities were pretty good in their performances. Tonight the dances they performed were picked randomly out of a hat, and lifts were once again banned by the judges. Do a lift, be penalized in points.

Here’s my take on tonight’s show.

Jason and Edyta. The first dance they performed was the Foxtrot. The judges loved it, calling it fantastic and truly beautiful. It was the first dance Jason ever performed on the show so you could see so much improvement in int. He got a perfect score from Len and a total score of 28 for the dance. Their second dance was the Paso Doble. For some reason it just didn’t do anything for me at all. It just semed kind of forced or that Jason was trying way too hard. The judges thought he attached the dance, and Bruno said he looked like a matador. He got a 27 for this dance, leaving them with a total score of 55 out of 60 for the night and in third place on the leaderboard.

Marissa and Tony. I don’t think anyone is more surprised than Marissa to have her dancing in the semi final round. She is awesome and I just love her because she isn’t a perfect size zero and still looks beautiful and sexy as she performs some great dances. They had the Quickstep for their first dance and you could just tell from her performance that she is enjoying every moment and she just shines as she dances. The judges thought she did a good job, and Carrie Ann went so far as to call her the unlikely contender. She got a 26 for this dance. Her second dance was the Rumba, and I thought it was a nice performance. Len and Bruno thought she did a good job, while Carrie Ann said she wasn’t excited by the dance and it wasn’t worthy of the semi finals. They got a 26 for this dance as well. She and Tony ended up with a score of 52 out of 60 for the night, in fourth place overall.

Cristian and Cheryl. Len made a comment to Cristian that an injury can be a bad thing or it can be a good thing in a way. Cristian’s injury forced him to concentrate and focus more on dancing well and it has really been a good thing for him in that respect. Their first dance tonight was the Viennese Waltz and it was nice. Cheryl’s costume was way too distracting. The song they danced to was “Satellite” by Dave Matthews and I think her costume could have doubled for a satellite. In fact Tom Bergeron asked if anyone was missing a weather balloon after the performance. The judges liked it and gave him 9’s across the board for a total of 27. His second dance was the Samba, and he was kind of worried and scared of it at first because this is the dance where he injured his arm. In fact he did a great job, and as Bruno said in his critique it Cristian versus the Samba, with Cristian winning tonight. He got 10’s from Bruno and Carrie Ann for a total of 29. His total for the night was 56 out of 60, leaving him in second place.

Kristi and Mark. Kristi’s first dance tonight was the Tango. I’ve said it a hundred times that I’m not a fan of the dance but I thought she did a good job. You could just tell from her behind the scenes interview that she was sick and tired of being in second place and she was planning on coming out tonight to kick some butt. Bruno and Carrie Ann loved the dance; Bruno said it was full of drama, passion and sex appeal. Len liked it but said it was a bit hectic at times. She got a 29 out of 30 for this dance. Her second dance was the Jive, and I didn’t think it was as good as the one she performed a few weeks ago. The judges thought it was good, and Bruno gave her a 10 for it. She got a 28 for this performance, and ended up with a 57 out of 60 for the night, in first place again.

I’m not sure who is going home tomorrow. You might say Marissa because of her low scores, but she was in last place last week on the leaderboard and still made it through. I think it might be Jason in trouble. But it’s still anyone’s game right now.
