Dancing with the Stars: Season 7
Season Seven started out with some very judgmental judging from the three judges of DWTS. I think they forgot this was the first time for these contestants and not a continuation of season six. That said, here is my take on the premier episode of season seven, the good, the bad and the pretty pathetic.
Beginning with the Cha Cha, out of the block were Cody Linley and Julianne, and being the first, they got very low marks from the judges. I think they had a great start and showed a lot of chemistry; however, they only got a score of 18. Now, who wouldn’t look good with Alec Mazo as a partner? I forgot how hot he really is; Toni Braxton wasn’t too shabby either and their cha cha was excellent – they could go all the way. Brooke Burke could be another Stacey Keebler; she has all the elements of a great dancer and works well with Derek. Although Lance Bass got a very good score, 22, he and his partner, Lacey, were way out there in cha cha land, and I didn’t think they were very good at all. (where is Anna when you need her?) Even Edyta couldn’t make Jeffrey Ross look good, in fact he was pretty pathetic – shades of Kenny Mayne. Susan Lucci may be the diva of daytime TV, but she is pretty stiff on the dance floor. Any progress she makes will be due to her fan base. The surprise to me of the cha cha dances was the one Warren Sapp did with Kym Johnson. He was unexpectedly good and could make a run on the series.
Now for the Fox Trot – I thought the professional chef, Rocco did pretty well for a first dance. He and Karina worked well together – in my opinion the judges expected too much for a first performance their score was only 14. Maurice Greene, however, was very stiff for a world class athlete; he may improve, Cheryl is a great teacher but he didn’t show me much potential. Ted McGinley actually had some good footwork, he was stiff at first but could come along; he partner, Inna, is new to the show and is very good. What can you say about Cloris Leachman other than she is a trooper. She looked good and was a smooth mover and Corky did a nice job of choreography. Kim Kardashian was a surprise, she had all the moves and the elegance, and Mark Ballas is an excellent partner. The best for last – Misty May-Treanor and Maksim, wow, what a combination. Absolutely the best in the fox trot and they work well together.
In my opinion, Jeffrey Ross will be the first to go tomorrow, and deservedly so; but I’ve been wrong before. We’ll just have to tune in to see.
