Dancing with the Stars – the Fab Five
Let me get a couple of things off my chest before I discuss tonight’s dancing: first of all, who picked out the music for Apolo and Julianne? Give me a break – Jesse’s Girl and My Darlin Clementine for a tango and paso doble? Orchestration be darned, they were awful selections. Secondly, Is Len Goodman joining the Simon Cowell fraternity of grumpy, ill-mannered Brits? I think Billy Ray and Apolo would say “yes”.
Now to the dancing – the ballroom portion - I was blown away by the crisp, clean tango of Apolo and Julianne, and enthralled by the waltz of Joey and Kim. Ian, and I can’t believe I agree with Len, fox hopped instead of doing the fox trot, and Karina did all the work for Billy Ray again in their version of the fox trot. I think Laila was intimidated by her father and seemed to be nervous and uncomfortable in her waltz, she has danced much better in the past.
Latin segment – Not much rumba from Ian, he kind of posed and shook his hips a little, but not much dancing. Joey was better, but still not as good as I have seen him. Billy Ray did it his way, not the mambo way, the Billy Ray way. Laila did a nice jive, but I still think she was nervous and really could do a lot better. By far the best dance of any night was the paso doble done by Apolo and Julianne; all I can say is WOW.
An observation: the judges seem to be extremely critical of both Apolo and Billy Ray. Granted Billy Ray is hanging on by a threat, but they are brutal to him. Maybe Laila’s dad can have a few words with Len about his boorish behavior. I’m not going to vote for anyone tonight, no one will suffer from my jinx. Let’s see who goes tomorrow. I think either Ian or Billy Ray, but who knows.
