Dancing with the Stars: The Final Eight Perform the Jive and the Rumba
It was the halfway point of “Dancing with the Stars” this week – time to dance or get out.
Ty and Chelsie started the night off with the jive. Ty got beat up last week by the judges and this week wasn’t much better. Len said she was charming and gave his all, but it wasn’t that good. Bruno likened him to a wild animal and Carrie Ann called it exciting, but hard to watch. Their score was 18.
Shawn and Mark performed the rumba, which was a bit hard since Shawn is so young. Bruno called it beautifully pure and Carrie Ann said she could see it was a big difficult for her. However, Len said it was just the right combination of fire for him and their total score was 26.
Lawrence and Edyta did the jive and they did it well, with a little visit from Warren Sapp. Warren helped Lawrence remember to have fun. Len said he captured the style of the dance. Lawrence saw his highest score of the season with a 22.
Melissa promised a comeback after last week’s poor performance and she and Toy did well with their rumba. Len called the dancing clean and precise, but felt it could have been more earthy. Bruno called her voluptuous and exotic, but wanted her to be more of a maneater. Melissa and Tony’s score was 27.
Lil Kim and Derek set the house on fire with their jive. Bruno told them they rocked and Carrie Ann did her best Mary Murphy scream, but Len said it lacked a lot of jive and was too theatrical. Still, he gave them a 8 to Carrie Ann and Bruno’s 10s, so their score was 28.
I found out more about Steve-O than I wanted to know this week (that his farts smelled like mildew), but I didn’t think his performance was quite as bad as Bruno and Len made out. Len said you can’t confuse movement with dancing, but Carrie Ann called it oddly mesmerizing. The score was all over the place – a 7, a 4, and a 5 for 16.
Gilles continued to steam up the stage with Cheryl – and that was with the jive! Len said it had a lot of jive qualities, but pointed out a wrong step Gilles took. Bruno called it fast and furious and pointed out the same misstep. Carrie Ann commented on his weird arms, but he still got a 26.
Chuck and Julianne were doing the rumba and this real life couple was afraid of having no chemistry. Bruno said they switched on the raunch factor and Carrie Ann called it the most passionate dance of the night, but it went too far for Len. He said half it was more suitable for the bedroom than the ballroom. They got a score of 23.
