Debi Mazar eliminated from Dancing with the Stars; Tom DeLay withdraws due to injury
The results show for week 3 of DWTS started, as always, with a recap of last night’s show. This week I kind of liked seeing it, because I wanted to catch the Donny – Bruno interlude again. The funniest part of it all – the looks on the faces of Tom and Kym while it was all going on. The encore performance followed the recap. It was a bit of a surprise, but Len explained they picked this dance because it was unique, unexpected, fun and entertaining – the Samba of Chuck and Anna.
After the commercial break Queen Latifah performed her new single accompanied by Maks and Cheryl. There was a lot more focus on the pro dancers in this performance, or at least it seemed to me. I like seeing the guests perform but I also really enjoy seeing the pros dance. They were great, as always. A recap of the judges’ leader board is followed by the first elimination announcements. The lowest scoring men were on stage to find out their fate. We find out that Tom and Cheryl and Chuck and Anna are safe, but Michael and Anna are in jeopardy. Of course it’s still not certain that Tom will be able to perform again next week with his injuries but the producers are holding us hostage right now to find out what the verdict will be.
After an exciting (sarcasm here) interview by Samantha and a bit on how reality has set in for the celebrities we get to hear whether or not Tom will be able to continue. He says that he’s pulling out of the competition because he can’t practice and if he can’t practice he’ll make a fool of himself and he won’t do that to Cheryl. Tom Bergeron extends an invitation to Tom to come back at the finale and perform the Texas Two Step if he’s healthy enough to do so. After being assured by Tom and Samantha that there will be one couple eliminated tonight, the elimination announcements continue with the top scoring women on the stage. Mya and Dmitry and Natalie and Alec are safe, while Joanna and Derek are in jeopardy.
Following commercials we find out the status of the remaining four male celebrities. Donny and Kym, Louie and Chelsie and Mark and Lacey are safe, while Aaron and Karina are still in jeopardy. This is followed by a bit on the design a dance. Season 5 contestant Sabrina Bryan was selected to perform with a male pro from this season. That voting begins tonight. The Macy’s Stars of Dance segment was next, and it featured the group JabbaWockeeZ. I wasn’t too sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. I loved their routine to a mix of the classic “Singing in the Rain” and current season pros Mark and Lacey joined them for a little bit. I really enjoyed this performance and would love to see them perform again on the show.
Queen Latifah performs again, and while she is really good I’m starting to think this results show is dragging. She’s accompanied by dancers who are not part of the show (as pro dancers) and I really think that if there are dancers to perform on a results show they should be the pros competing that season. Just my opinion, for whatever that is worth. A segment on predicting the winner using mathematics, statistics and luck is followed by the elimination announcement for the remaining female celebrities. Kelly and Louis and Melissa and Mark are safe, while Debi and Maks are still in jeopardy.
The bottom two couples tonight were Debi and Maks and Michael and Anna. The celebrity who ended up being eliminated tonight was Debi Mazar. I don’t think she ever loosened up enough to show the viewers her fiery personality.

I, too, was pleasantly surprised by the “Singing In The Rain” performance, I actually thought that they used a Gene Kelly recording. Probably not though.
