Donny Osmond and Kym Johnson win season 9 of Dancing With The Stars
Well, it’s the finale of Dancing With The Stars. If you’re reading this either you know who has won, or you’re hoping to find out who did. I’ll tell you right now so you don’t have to read the entire post (but I hope you do anyway). Donny Osmond is the season 9 champion of Dancing With The Stars.
The finalists were introduced after all the eliminated stars. I thought it was very interesting that Kelly was stopped several times for a congratulatory kiss. It was followed by what was supposed to be a recap of last night’s show but ended up with a several second shot of Miss Piggy’s back. Tom Bergeron in his ever cool way said “did I mention the show is live” and sent it to commercial break.
After commercial break we get to see the recap of last night’s show. I’m bored. No, I’m anxious to see actual dancing, not video of dancing of last night. Whitney Houston performs next – what a coup for the show to get her to perform on the finale. But it would have been so nice to see the show professionals dance instead of the ones that did. It’s followed by a bit about the Loser’s Club (celebrities who are voted off the show first). Jeffrey Ross inducts Ashley Hamilton into the club and introduces him and his last dance with Edyta. It was funny when Ashley dropped Edyta to dance with Jeffrey but very gross when Jeffrey took off his shirt.
Kathy and Tony, Macy and Jonathan and Debi and Maks return and perform new routines. It’s followed by a bit on how the flu invaded the ballroom this season. Right before commercial break we see Maks giving Miss Piggy a back rub. How much in bonus pay do you think Maks got to do that?
Tom and Cheryl perform after the break, the Texas Two Step. If he had not pulled out due to injury I don’t think he would have made it much further at all. Chuck and Anna and Mark and Lacey dance next. There’s this pseudo-fight scene in the middle. Yuck. I liked both of these two guys but I thought the whole fighting thing was dumb.
There’s a bit next with Adam Carolla giving advice to the finalists. Mercifully it doesn’t last long and we return to dancing where we see Natalie and Alec perform again. I liked her and was sorry when she was eliminated. I think she was a lot more talented than celebrities who made it further in the competition. It’s followed by Melissa and Mark dancing their prepared knockout dance that they never got to use.
A closer look at the final three follows the commercial break. The finalists are then introduced again to the audience. They will each perform an individual dance and be ranked from first to third by the judges. Kelly and Louis start things off with their Viennese Waltz from week 1. Len said that of all the celebrities she is the one he will miss the most, that he loved watching her every week. Bruno said she has earned her place as a ballroom princess. Carrie Ann said that of all the seasons she doesn’t think anyone has touched her as much as Kelly did.
Mya and Dmitry performed next, their Jive. Bruno called her Mya the Magnificent and said she has it all. Carrie Ann said she set the pace for everyone this season. Len said that although they had their differences at times he never doubted her dance talent.
Donny and Kym did their Argentine Tango after the commercial break. It was amazing. Carrie Ann said it was artistry in motion tonight. Len said that through all the ups and downs he never lost that performance quality. Bruno said he reached the dark side and used it well.
When all was said and done, Kelly and Louis finished third; Mya and Dmitry second; and Donny and Kym first. They were truly shocked to finish first I think. Both of them were standing there with their mouths wide open catching flies with looks of surprise in their eyes.
After the commercial break Louie and Chelsie dance to the hit “Puppy Love,” performed by Donny Osmond himself. Supposedly they are not dating, but there were times during the season I thought for sure they were romantically involved.
Michael Irvin and Anna Demidova perform the Paso Doble, competing against Jerry Rice and Anna Trebunskaya. No question, Jerry Rice is the better dancer hands down in my opinion. Len said that in their opinion Michael is the winner because he is game ready. He wins the coveted mirror ball ring. However, in the battle of the bodies Jerry wins. But how could you have a rematch if Jerry wins?
Aaron and Karina perform the Quickstep after the break. Statler and Waldorf gave some commentary on the performance, and it is scary how much they resemble Len Goodman. Miss Piggy interviews the returning favorites before the competition Mambo – Jerry Springer, Steve Wozniak, Cloris Leachman and Joanna Krupa. Cloris and Corky Ballas were the first to be eliminated from the competition Mambo; Jerry and Edyta were next (didn’t he dance with Kym?); Steve and Karina next with Joanna and Derek winning.
Whitney Houston performed again, her hit “I want to dance with somebody.” This time ten of the professional dancers from the show performed along with her and they were awesome, as always. I saw Mark, Chelsie, Cheryl, Edyta, Jonathan, Maks, Lacey, Alec, Anna, and I think Tony. I hope I didn’t miss anyone, I tried really hard to see who was performing so I could write down their names.
Finally, to the elimination announcements. We find out the couple who is in third place – Kelly and Louis. Tom Bergeron said that he’s not supposed to play favorites, but she was the person he looked forward to seeing dance every week.
After the commercial break we find out what we’ve been waiting for since 9:00 tonight. The champions of season 9 of Dancing With The Stars are Donny Osmond and Kym Johnson. I think their performance tonight put them over the top. Watching Mya and Dmitry’s faces you could just see they knew that they were going to come in second place.
