Double Elimination: Penn Jillette and Monica Seles are eliminated from Dancing With The Stars

I turned on Dancing With The Stars tonight right at 9:00 p.m. because last night Tom Bergeron said don’t be late – the eliminations will start right away.  Let me just say this about that – Liar!  I should have known better.  The results show started with a recap of last night, which was fine, and then we had the first encore performance of the season.  Since it was Jason and Edyta I didn’t mind a bit – I thought they were great again.  Jason definitely is the “Mambo King” of the week, if not of Season 6.

The show does get down to business early with the eliminations for the men, but it wasn’t the announcement of the male celebrity to go home, it was the announcement of the first couple to be safe.  It was Steve and Anna, and Tom gave them a big “wow” before he announced their names.  Anna looked truly shocked when she heard their names as being the first couple to be safe.

Up next was a musical performance by the group the Jonas Brothers.  I have to admit that I never had heard of them before tonight so I didn’t know what to expect from them.  They did a cover of the A-Ha song from the 80’s “Take on Me.”  Pros Anna, Jonathan, Edyta and Tony danced to the song.  The dancing was really good, the musical performance was nothing special to me.  I remember the original and I prefer the original.

The next part of the men’s elimination takes place – Jason and Edyta and Mario and Karina find out they are safe this week.  Following this is a pre-taped interview piece with the celebrities discussing how nervous they are about the double elimination this week and how no one wants to be the first celebrity to be sent home.

Commercial break, then we go to the men’s elimination.  Tom Bergeron announces that Adam and Julianne are safe (big surprise), leaving Penn and Kym and Cristian and Cheryl in the bottom two.  The male celebrity that is going home first this season is Penn Jillette.

No time to waste, the show quickly goes to the women and their elimination and the announcement of the first couple who is safe: Shannon and Derek.  Right from there we go to a cute segment of the man on the street of NYC, asking people who they like so far this season.  Our man on the street reporter – “Dance Machine” Cameron Mathison.

As soon as Cameron’s bit ends we go to the Macy’s Stars of Dance segment.  This week it was an aerial dance performance choreographed by Jacques Heim (a choreographer for Cirque Du Soleil).  They performed to the song “I would do anything for love – but I won’t do that” made famous by Meatloaf.  What an awesome performance.  Other than last season with Michael Flatley this is the only Stars of Dance performance I thought was worthy to be on the show.  Wow.  I sound like Steve Guttenberg now.  Wow.

The Jonas Brothers were up next with their second performance, “When You Look Me in the Eyes.”  Louis and Cheryl danced to the song and were amazing.  The song itself, again, was nothing special to me.  The hosts said it was their new single or their hit single but I had never heard it before tonight.

Back to the ladies and their elimination.  We find out that Kristi and Mark and Marlee and Fabian are safe.

Final elimination for the ladies.  We find out that Priscilla and Louis are safe.  That leaves Marissa and Tony and Monica and Jonathan are in the bottom two.  The female celebrity going home tonight is Monica Seles.
