DWTS: and the winner is….Helio
Not a female, again. This year the ladies really had a chance; two in the finals but once again the male dancer triumphed. (Either the male dancer, or Julianne had a better fan base than Maks!) The finale came down to Helio and Mel; either one could have won, both have come such a long way in their dancing from the first performance to the finale, but I think it was Helio’s charm that did it.
My personal favorite, Marie, came in third. I actually broke one of my rules and voted for her. Told you that was the kiss of death! Marie is the quintessential performer, but a mediocre dancer. The fans and judges were right, Mel and Helio were head and shoulders over her as dancers; but as performers, there was no one who could touch her, not even Mr. Las Vegas himself. I thought it was amusing when she referred to herself as Cinderella and the judges as the stepsisters.
Instead of stretching the show to an hour as usual, ABC in their race for ’sweeps’, prolonged the show for two hours. We got to see most of the original cast dance, Wayne and Floyd didn’t, Wayne because of health reasons, and Floyd because he is in training for a fight next week. Comments on that – Sabrina and Mark were outstanding, they deserved to be in the finals; Jane and Tony did a lift in their waltz, and Tony looked right at Carrie Ann, it was nice to see Cameron shirtless, his dancing was pretty good too, and Jennie seemed to be so much more relaxed now that the pressure is off.
With the finals, freestyle, the judges gave both couples perfect scores. Come on now, you didn’t expect anything less did you? All in all, what can you say, for an evening’s entertainment you can’t be this show. Tom said that they will be back next year. Do you think he meant next season? Talk with you then.
