DWTS last night

The dances featured on DWTS this week were the Samba and the Tango; each is an exciting dance to watch, if done correctly and provides a lot of visual entertainment.

The Samba:   While Maurice and Cheryl were very energetic, this was not a Samba.  First of all the music was terrible, I say that a lot, but there was not much Latin dancing at all.  Maurice is too much hip hop and not enough hip.   Toni and Alec, on the other hand, are another story.  After a shaky start, Toni did a very nice samba, good hip action, terrific spins and a couple of nice samba rolls.  Boy is Alec hot!   This to me was by far the best dance Rocco and Karina did together.  The music was good and he seemed to just let go and do a good dance.  The judges, weren’t too impressed, maybe he should make them some lasagna.  Next we have Brooke and Derek; wow, what moves!  It was a great dance to rotten music.  It was too erotic for Len, poor baby!  Brooke could go all the way to the finals, she has the talent but does she have the fan base?  Warren Sapp has just amazed me with his ability to be so light on his feet for a big man.  He and Kim did a pretty good samba, not as good as Toni or Brooke, but way better than Maurice or Rocco.

Next comes the Tango – Once again to absolutely inappropriate music, Cody and Julianne did the tango.  Even though it was almost  impossible to equate the tango to this music, they did a dance that was at times fine.  Cody just doesn’t seem to connect as a “grownup” dancer.  He’s like a kid, well, he is a kid, who just can’t concentrate.  To my absolute astonishment, Cloris and Corky did a tango that was recognizable!  The music was good, and she actually did a couple of tango steps.  Not an embarrassment this week, although it was shades of Gloria Swanson meets Rudolf Valentino.  Susan Lucci did a restrained emotionless tango; technically proficient, but void of excitement.  Her costume was great, her hair and makeup were flawless, and the music was actually tango music.  Bravo!  Next we have Rocky Horror Picture show touched with Gothic meets the dance floor.  Lance and Lacey try to entertain, but I just don’t get them.  The music was AWFUL, and it was the same old Lance and Lacey.  They are too crass and street for the ballroom scene.  Wait, they’ll probably win – everyone I vote for gets voted off, and everyone I’m not too fond of goes on!

The results show might be interesting, the Ballroom Kids competition will be back and there will be a performance by Flamenco dancers.  Might be good.  My guess is that this will be bye-bye for Rocco and Karina.  We’ll see.
