DWTS: No one is eliminated tonight

Tonight’s results show on DWTS was an hour earlier than usual.  That’s different.  What didn’t change was how the producers did everything they could to drag out the show.  I know, I know, I complain about it every week but it’s such a pet peeve of mine.  Maybe I should just start turning on the elimination show with 15 minutes to go.  No, then what could I complain about?  And there was no elimination tonight.  That was different too.  But I think they way they did it stunk.

The show begins with a recap of last night.  I’m guessing that everyone who is watching this show probably saw it already so I think it’s pretty redundant.  Next we see Maks and Edyta performing the Jive that Misty and Maks should have danced last night.  I liked this tribute.  And it was a great performance.  Next, a recap of the leader board.  You can probably guess my feeling on it.

Before commercial we get the first elimination announcement.  Tom Bergeron makes a very interesting comment.  He says that later in the show they will reveal the couple with the lowest total combined score.  He doesn’t say eliminate them.  And later when he makes a comment about Kool and the Gang and the song “Celebration” he says that one couple won’t be celebrating later.  He doesn’t say they will be eliminated though.

After commercial it’s a musical performance by Kool and the Gang, a medley of some of their biggest hits.  Some dancers I don’t recognize are performing with them.  I think my feeling on that is obvious.  I want to see the pros from the show perform, especially when the performance was as long as this one was tonight.  There’s a segment on how the celebrities bring to the dance floor skills from their other careers.  Before commercial there’s another elimination announcement.  Maurice and Cheryl are safe.

When we get back to the show it’s one of Samantha’s famous backstage interviews with the three couples who are safe.  How does it feel to be safe?  How do you think it feels – terrible?  Oh no, now we have to practice for another week.  Perhaps we can get some more creative questions next week.

The Macy’s Stars of Dance segment tonight featured the Radio City Rockettes.  What a great performance.  I always love seeing them perform and tonight they did not disappoint.  We need more segments like this one.  Of course if they brought back Michael Flatley again I wouldn’t complain either.

Musical guest Jennifer Hudson performed her song “Spotlight” accompanied by Derek and Julianne Hough.  Those two dancers are amazing.  I loved how Julianne danced on the judges desk and really played up her legs (since Bruno mentioned last night how great they are) while I was impressed with Derek’s round off back flip.  A filler bit next – three choreographers (Dave Scott, Brian Friedman and Travis Payne) give some insight into the professionals and their styles.  It was interesting, though.  Before commercial break Samantha says that they’ll be announcing who will be safe to dance next week and who has come in last.  Again, I’m thinking that there will be no elimination this week.  I mean what would ABC do – they would have to find some show to fill in the schedule if two celebrities left this week.

An interesting bit on the injuries so far this season to the celebrities and professionals follows commercial and another elimination announcement.  Warren and Kym and Toni and Alec are safe.  They go backstage to be interviewed by Samantha.  Her question this time was “how does it feel out there?”  How do you think it feels Samantha?  Off to commercial again.

Tom Bergeron announces some “big news” (like we didn’t get the hints all night long).  There will be no one going home tonight.  The scores from this week will be combined with next week’s to determine who is eliminated then.  They do reveal that Rocco and Karina would have been the couple going home if Misty and Maks didn’t have to withdraw from the competition.  They looked so sad and I have to say it really sucks that they announced this at all.  I think they should have kept their mouths shut and at the very end say the couple going home tonight is – no one.  Now Rocco and Karina are going to be under even more stress.  And how good is this for their egos, knowing that they should have been going home tonight.  I hope America pulls behind Rocco and saves him to dance even more than next week.
