DWTS: One down, twelve to go

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Jeffrey and Edyta were the couple eliminated on tonight’s show of Dancing with the Stars.  I take that back, I think he was surprised; but then, ego will be ego.

One of my favorite dances is the quickstep, and tonight some of the best quickstep I’ve seen in a long time was performed by Brooke and Derek – shades of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers!  This, I think is the couple to beat.  Another couple to beat, and quickstep dancers, was Toni and Alec.  He is an excellent choreographer, and was missed for the past few seasons.  Warren Sapp is amazing, for such a big man, he is so light on his feet and has excellent footwork; and, Kim wore a short costume.  When the female of the partnership wears a shorter skirt in the quickstep, the footwork is right out there for all to see (along with everything else!)  Young Mr. Cody has an awful lot of energy and potential, and if channeled correctly dancing with Julianne could take him a long way in this competition.  Susan Lucci is much better at ballroom than Latin; she has an elegantly smooth look and her fan base will carry her along in the competition.  I’m probably the only person who doesn’t think Lance and Lacey are very good.  I have to agree with Len, their performances do nothing for ballroom.  Put them in a stage show, and they would rock – but ballroom is not freeform.

As far as the mambo competition went, only Maks and Misty seemed to be in a comfort zone.  Granted it was relatively small, but interesting.  It is still hard to focus on the female when Maks is dancing.  Maurice exudes confidence, but he is too much street and not enough Latin.  Maybe my age is showing.  Give Ted McGinley, credit.  For an “everyman” he gave it the old college try.  Where is the hip movement, Ted?  Hey, Rocco, you have hips, let move them a little.  Both these guys tried, but they are not anywhere near their element in Latin.  Kim K has the body but not the moves.  She was also stiff and uneasy in the mambo.  Please, fans, put us all out of our misery and vote Cloris off – she is a wonderful actress and a fine entertainer, but I was embarrassed for her and her partner.  Enough is enough!

All will come out in the results show.  Hey, the Jonas Brothers!  Nice going ABC.  Now, if you only don’t drag it out – make it interesting.  Half an hour would be fine!
