DWTS: Only two weeks left until the finale

This week was the first week the couples would have to perform individual dances.  In each of their Latin dances the celebrities were also required to perform a solo of at least 15 seconds in length.  Here’s my recap of tonight’s DWTS show:

Cody and Edyta.  I thought that they are working better together as a team.  Their first dance tonight was the Foxtrot and I thought it was very nice.  Cody actually seemed to be under control during this dance.  The judges liked it too.  Len said he was pleasantly surprised and that he did a top notch job.  Bruno said it was his most grown up dance yet, and Carrie Ann loved it but being Carrie Ann had to point out that Edyta lifted her foot during the performance and thus she had to take a point off her score.  They got a 24 out of 30 for the ballroom round.  In the Latin round they did the Mambo.  Len said after this performance that overall Cody had two good dances tonight.  Bruno said that it was wild and jerky but that he appreciated the effort.  Carrie Ann gave him an A for effort but also thought the performance was a bit erratic and disjointed.  They got a 24 out of 30 for this performance as well.

Brooke and Derek.  In the Ballroom round they performed the Tango.  I’m not a big fan of the Tango so I wasn’t thrilled with the performance, but it would not have made any difference to me who did the dancing, I wouldn’t like it anyway.  Both Bruno and Carrie Ann thought it was perfect.  Len, cranky old man that he was, found fault in the performance.  He said that since Carrie Ann and Derek are comparing her skills to that of a pro then he has to judge her as if she was a pro.  He said the performance was riddled with mistakes.  I wonder if Len just doesn’t want a woman to win this season’s title of champion.  They got a 28 out of 30 for the performance.  In the Latin round they danced the Mambo.  I thought it was a fun performance.  The judges said that the performance overall was ambitious and this might have impacted Brooke’s performance.  Len thought overall the dance was fantastic, while Bruno said she could have revived the dead.  They got a 27 out of 30 for this performance.

Maurice and Cheryl.  The first dance for this couple tonight was the Quickstep.  You had to figure that Maurice and his ability as an Olympic sprinter would serve him well in this performance.  The judges liked it, thinking that it was very much improved and that overall he did a really good job (Len’s words).  They got a 24 out of 30 for the Ballroom round.  In the Latin round they danced the Paso Doble.  I thought it was pretty good but nothing special.  The judges did think that he did a good performance.  Len thought he had a lot of attack and aggression while Bruno said he was strong, imposing and very powerful.  Carrie Ann loved his focus and intensity.  Even with all these great comments they only got a score of 24 out of 30 for their second dance.

Lance and Lacey.  Their dance in the ballroom round tonight was the Foxtrot.  I didn’t really care for this performance tonight.  I’m not sure why though.  The judges on the other hand really liked it.  Len said that Lance really cleaned up his performance and overall the dance was well done.  Bruno said he had a classic Foxtrot but injected his own quirky style into the performance.  Carrie Ann thought it was very animated.  They got a score of 26 out of 30 for this performance.  In the Latin round they did the Samba.  I thought it was ok but I didn’t get that Samba kind of feeling.  Len said that Lance needs to work on his footwork while Bruno and Carrie Ann thought he did a good job. He got a 24 out of 30 for this round.

Warren and Kym.  Their first dance of the night was the Tango.  To be honest with you I really didn’t watch the performance.  I don’t like the Tango and I was trying to catch up on the show with my TiVo so I fast forwarded through it.  I did hear the judges comments.  Len said it was fantastic, while Bruno called it a “mean tango”.  Carrie Ann loved it.  They got a score of 28 out of 30 with a perfect 10 from Carrie Ann.  Their Latin round was the Jive.  I thought it was fun and full of energy.  All three of the judges loved his energy and thought it was fun but all three commented on his feet.  Len went as far as to say that words couldn’t describe his feet.  They got a 26 out of 30 for their second dance.

It’s hard to say who is going home. Cody and Maurice are tied for the bottom spot.  I think in terms of fan base Cody has that won. But it’s often been a surprise as to who goes home.  And we didn’t find out a bottom two last week so this week’s elimination is going to come as a big surprise for someone.
