DWTS: the celebrities perform the Rumba or Samba

Eight stars left on Dancing With The Stars, and tonight they performed either the Samba or Rumba.  Here’s what I thought of the dances tonight.

Mario and Karina.  Tonight they did the Samba and I thought it was all right, but nothing special.  The crowd seems to really like Mario, and he is an easy guy to like from what I’ve seen so far.  I just didn’t think this was his best performance.  The judges, on the other hand, completely disagreed with me, and Len said it was his best dance so far.  They all gave him a 9, leaving him with a total for the night of 27 out of 30.

Priscilla and Louis.  The costume Priscilla wore for her Rumba reminded me of something Chris March designed for his Bryant Park collection on Project Runway.  Was that human hair on her skirt?  The dance to me was boring.  There was no heat, no fire, and I’m not ashamed to admit I fast forwarded though it on my TiVo.  The judges agreed with me, saying that it was disappointing, too careful and not spontaneous at all.  She ended up with a 21 out of 30, the lowest scoring couple of the evening.

Marissa and Tony.  The Samba really suited her and her bubbly personality.  Len said she had more bounce to the ounce than anyone else I guess.  I thought it was fun and I loved it.  The judges thought she did a great job, and Carrie Ann said it was her best routine so far.  She ended up with a 24 out of 30.

Cristian and Cheryl.  I thought for sure that Cristian would give us a hot and sexy performance during his Samba.  I was wrong.  It was a nice dance but there was nothing sexy about it.  The judges thought it was a good and competent performance, but only gave him a 23 out of 30 for his performance.

Marlee and Fabian.  The Samba was a challenge for her, because of the rhythm of the dance.  There’s slow parts and there’s fast parts and being deaf this proved to be a major disadvantage to her.  The judges all called her inspiring, and Len said it was well done considering that she was deaf.  She got a score of 22 out of 30.

Kristi and Mark.  Kristi, at first in her behind the scenes interviews, seemed uncomfortable or hesitant about the Rumba, that is until she took on the persona of Kristiana and performed the dance in front of her husband.  It was a very hot performance tonight.  When the Rumba is done well it is amazing, and she did an amazing performance tonight.  She ended up the evening in first place, with the only 10’s of the night and a score of 29 out of 30.

Shannon and Derek.  Poor Derek.  Could he have any more bad luck?  Two weeks ago he’s carted away from rehearsal in an ambulance with a neck injury.  Today he’s in the hospital with food poisoning.  Considering all the obstacles he must have been facing with dancing tonight and all the turns and twists (can you say barf bucket please) they did a nice job.  The judges criticized Shannon for her lack of hip action, but for heaven’s sake she has no hips.  She ended up with a 23 out of 30.

Jason and Edyta.  They ended the night with their Rumba, and I didn’t like it.  I thought their Viennese Waltz last week was 100 times hotter and sexier than tonight’s dance.  I was probably the only person watching who felt this way, because they got 9’s across the board from the judges, ending up in second place with 27 out of 30.

Next week is the first time the celebrities will dance twice.  If Priscilla makes it through elimination tomorrow then I think this will be a major disadvantage for her based on her age.  It will also be a challenge for Marlee to learn the group dance too I’m sure.  No matter what it’s going to be interesting.
