DWTS Week 3: The Jive and Tango

Last night on Dancing With The Stars had the celebrities doing either the Jive or the Tango.  The Tango is my least favorite dance of all the ones competed on the show and for the most part tonight I did not enjoy the Tango as much as I did the Jive.

Here’s my take on the show, in the order in which the celebrities performed.

Marlee and Fabian.  Let me just begin by saying how amazing I think Marlee is to be competing on the show, and at such a good level.  She’s not getting by on sympathy and that was evident last night with the judges and their comments on her Jive.  All three of them mentioned that she lost her timing during the dance.  I thought it was a good performance, if not a bit slow.  The judges gave her a score of 21 out of 30.

Steve and Anna.  I just loved the behind the scenes this week.  Poor Anna was sick so she had husband Jonathan Roberts step in to help Steve in learning the dance.  I loved how Steve called it “man on man” Tango.  It always seems that when Jonathan steps in to help one of Anna’s partners (like he did with Jerry Rice) they always do a bit better.  He was hysterical when he went and got a helmet and goggles to protect himself from the judges and their comments.  The judges commented that his performance was much improved this week and gave him a score of 21 out of 30.

Cristian and Cheryl.  This week Cristian had to tackle the Jive.  I thought it was a nice performance overall, nothing great but nothing bad by any means.  The judges liked it, and Bruno actually gave him a 9 for his performance.  All three judges said it was his best performance yet and he ended up with a total of 25 out of 30 for the evening.

Mario and Karina.  Mario had a challenging schedule this week, having to fly all over the country to promote his new album.  Because of this he didn’t have the training time he would have liked or needed with Karina to really do well with the Tango.  You could see that this performance was not up to the standard he set for himself in the previous two performances.  Plus I hated the arrangement of the Police song “Roxanne” that they used as their music.  The judges were all over the place – Len thought it was a mess and said he was bitterly disappointed in the performance while Bruno thought it was a charismatic performance even though he knew he could do better.  He ended up with a score of 21 out of 30.

Shannon and Derek.  I’m really coming to like Shannon because she seems like a fun and genuine person.  Derek gave her a complicated Jive to perform and she did a really good job.  Although at the end I thought she might pass out too and I was thinking that Tom Bergeron was saying to himself “don’t fall, don’t pass out” or whatever.  They thought she did a good job, giving her a score of 24 out of 30.

Adam and Julianne.  Again, I started out liking Adam but after the “b” comment he was not one of my favorites.  I’m starting to soften up on my stand on him because he really seems to be trying hard and trying to do well because he doesn’t want to disappoint Julianne.  The judges commented on Julianne’s skill to make Adam look like a dancer during their Tango, and Carrie Ann said he looked sexy.  I don’t get that one at all.  He ended up with a score of 21 out of 30.

Marissa and Tony.  What about the potty mouth on Marissa?  Did you catch her “Oh S*it” comment when she was waiting on the scores?  I thought it was kind of funny because it was a real moment.  She was frustrated after hearing their comments on her Jive and I don’t blame her.  The judges were so harsh on her.  Why?  Is it because she really has some true talent, or are they upset that a real sized woman is competing on the show?  Len said it was a careful performance, Bruno said it looked like a rehearsal and Carrie Ann said she was boring.  I didn’t agree at all, I loved it myself.  She ended up with a 19 out of 30 for the night.

Priscilla and Louis.  I’m not a fan of the Tango, but this Tango was hot.  I am so surprised at how well Priscilla is doing competing against the younger celebrities.  Bruno called it a hot cougar tango.  What is it with Bruno and his fascination with calling the older women cougars?  She did well, ending up with a 26 out of 30.

Jason and Edyta.  I was amazed at how well this big guy moved during his Jive.  He was light on his feet and quick.  One of the judges made this comment to him, Len it was I think, and I don’t get why they would say this to him: “One week you’re a rooster, the next week you’re a feather duster.”  I thought it was great.  He did pretty good, getting a score of 23 out of 30.

Kristi and Mark.  Their Tango was great, and it’s pretty clear that Kristi is the class of the competition.  I just hope that people vote for her and that she doesn’t get kicked off too soon like poor Sabrina did last season.  They performed to “Rio” by Duran Duran.  The judges loved her, but said she didn’t show enough passion, anger and emotion during the performance.  Bruno said she had nothing to worry about technically, she just needs to become a “dirty girl”.  They got the top score of the evening with a 27 out of 30.

It’s going to be hard to say who will get eliminated this week.  Last week they did not reveal who was in the bottom two (which I didn’t realize until last night) so no one knows who was in jeopardy last week.  Marissa is in danger just based on her low score; I think she has a lot of fans out there.  Cristian might be in danger because I don’t think he has the fan base that some of the other stars have.  We’ll just have to wait and see what happens tonight.
