DWTS Week 3: Wayne Newton is Eliminated

Another Tuesday, another Dancing With the Stars results show.  Need I say more?

The show begins with the requisite recap of the previous evening’s performances.  Three couples are tied for first place, and they are all female celebrities – Jane Seymour, Mel B and Sabrina Bryan.  Can I say it’s about time that the female celebrities are given some consideration.  I hope this is a preview of the grand finale, but I have a feeling that it isn’t going to be three ladies.  I think Helio is going to be in the mix when it comes for the finalists.  Rightly so – I think he and Sabrina are the best celebrities this year, even though the judges gave him lower marks last night for his Jive.

Before the encore performance Len Goodman says that he thinks this is the best season yet.  The judges select the Tango of Jennie Garth and Derek Hough as the dance they want to see again.  Huh???? There are other couples who scored higher.  They mention something about the fact that they did so well after the fall last week but I don’ t think that is reason enough to get the encore.  I think it should have been the couple who gave the best performance last night.

Speaking of that….I started to do some thinking and I think Sabrina and Mark had the best performance last night.  They also performed first.  If they had gone last or later in the show I think you might have seen a 10.  Were the judges doing the old figure skating judging style of having to save room in case someone else comes along better than them?  Just my two cents.

Our first musical performance was by Seal (AKA Mr. Heidi Klum who hosts Project Runway, another of my favorite reality TV programs).  Two professional ballroom dancers (not competing on the show and I am embarrassed to say I missed their names) danced along to his “Kiss from a Rose”.  At first I was excited to find out Seal was one of the musical guests, but this is not my favorite Seal song.  How about “Don’t Cry”?  I think that is a much better song.  Again, my two cents.

Billy Ray Cyrus and his daughter Miley (AKA Hannah Montana) were the other musical guests.  Hmmmmm……….don’t they star on a show on the Disney network, parent company of ABC?  Maks and Karina danced along to the “exclusive” performance of the Cyrus family.  Now I know I’m making several references to Project Runway, and maybe it is because I just watched the marathon of Season 3 on Bravo yesterday (I think) but the outfit Maks wore in the performance looked suspiciously like the outfit Vincent created in the “International Jet Setter” challenge.  I don’t think Bravo is affiliated at all with ABC or Disney.  Maybe it’s just coincidence, or maybe I’m watching too much reality television.

Seal performed a second number, one that I assume is new.  He had dancers performing with him that at first looked like they were going to be pole dancers – that is until I realized they were light poles not stripper poles.  I’ve complained before about non-ballroom dancers performing on this ballroom dancing show and I’m complaining now.  The caliber of the professional dancers in this cast is amazing.  Julianne Hough has proved herself over and over to be a fantastic freestyle dancer.  There are other cast members who are equally as good and equally as talented.  Why do the producers allow these musical acts to bring in their own dancers?

The bottom two couples were Wayne Newton and Cheryl Burke and Karina Smirnoff and Floyd Mayweather.  Once they are announced Tom Bergeron goes to the judges to get their opinions on the couples. Who cares?  Yet another time suck on this show.  In the end it was Wayne and Cheryl who were eliminated from the show.  I guess his fan base could not make up for the poor judges’ scores.

I am glad to hear I’m not the only one who is sick and tired of the pandering Bergeron gives to the judges. Notice the opinions were asked first of Bruno and Carrie - aren’t they going to be doing some kind of also ran dancing show for ABC
