DWTS week 5: David Alan Grier is eliminated
Tonight’s results show on Dancing With The Stars started off quickly, with an encore performance of Lil’ Kim and Derek’s Viennese Waltz. It was just as lovely as last night. After a recap of last night’s show we get the first elimination announcements, finding out that Shawn and Mark and Lil’ Kim and Derek are safe.
After the commercial break Grammy award winning singer Etta James performed her legendary song “At Last” accompanied by Maks and Karina. The dancing was beautiful. I just have to say that Etta James can sing. There’s no comparison between her and anyone else who performs this song. There’s a boring backstage interview by Samantha, asking Ty and Steve-O how does it feel to be low on the leaderboard, ready for the dance off, blah, blah, blah. But it doesn’t last long, and pretty quickly we find out that Gilles and Cheryl and Steve-O and Lacey are safe.
Right after commercial break we go into an elimination announcement – Chuck and Julianne and Melissa and Tony are safe. There’s a clip about the stars and how their lives have changed since joining the cast of season 8 of DWTS. This is followed by the Macy’s Stars of Dance. I’m not sure who they were, they were from a Las Vegas show. To be honest I took this as a chance to go and get a snack.
The show returns with a performance by Disney Channel star Demi Lovato and two dancers. Again it was kind of boring. I took the chance to type up this blog entry from tonight’s show. Samantha has one of her useless, time filling, backstage interviews and then we find out what we all really want to know – who will be in the dance off. Immediately in this announcement we find out that Ty and Chelsie are safe. Lawrence and Edyta and David and Kym are in the dance off.
David and Kym are up first, doing their Viennese Waltz. I liked it last night, and I liked it again tonight. The judges were much happier with their performance today. Len said he enjoyed it again and it was a little bit better, but not sure it was a whole point better; Bruno said he worked well under pressure and the performance had an edge tonight. Carrie Ann said that she was able to feel the connection between David and Kym and said there was harmony and passion in the performance. They got a score of 24, an improvement from their score of 22 last night.
Lawrence and Edyta danced their Paso Doble second. I thought it was equally uncomfortable tonight. Len and Carrie Ann said he did a good job with a very difficult piece of music. Bruno said that when the beat picked up in the second half of the dance he did a good job but he needs to perform well the entire dance. They got a 20 tonight, same as last night.
In the end it was David Alan Grier who was eliminated. I’m so sorry to see him go – he was one of my favorites from the beginning. He said that his biggest goal in the show was to try and make Kym proud. Kym told him that she was very proud of him.
Next week the couples will tackle the Jive or the Rumba. Can you imagine Steve-O and Lacey doing the Rumba? How about Lawrence doing the Jive? It should be interesting.
