DWTS Welcomes Adam Carolla
Comedian, writer, radio personality, television star, and actor Adam Carolla will be dancing with Julianne Hough on this season’s “Dancing with the Stars.” How far will this multi-talented guy make it in the competition? Only time will tell!
Adam Carolla was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 27, 1964; however, he grew up in North Hollywood and attended North Hollywood High School. He was voted Class Clown, but also served as the captain of the football team. He has said that he was recruited by Marshall University and the University of California, Davis to play football. He said wasn’t interested in attending college, so he turned them both down, but did briefly attend Los Angeles Valley College. After dropping out, he worked several jobs, which included working as a carpenter and a boxing trainer.
Adam says his goal was always to write comedy, not perform it. He trained with The Groundlings, the improvisational comedy troupe based in Los Angeles, which also claims Will Ferrell, Phil Hartman, Paul Reubens, and Jon Lovitz as former alumni. He tried stand-up comedy for a while, but found it really wasn’t for him.
He got his real break in show business when he answered a call to serve as a boxing trainer for Jimmy Kimmel. At the time, Kimmel was on KROQ radio doing the Kevin and Bean Show. Adam eventually joined the show, which lead to his hosting another radio show Loveline with Dr. Drew Pinsky. The radio show was eventually made into a television show by MTV and it ran for five seasons. Adam and Dr. Pinsky also co-wrote a book called “The Dr. Drew and Adam Book: A Survival Guild to Life and Love.
During his Loveline stint, Adam created and co-starred in The Man Show with Jimmy Kimmel on Comedy Central. The two also created, Crank Yankers, a show in which regulars and guest stars make actual prank calls, for Comedy Central. Adam currently hosts The Adam Carolla Show, a weekday morning radio show that is a part of CBS Radio’s Free FM format. It is based at Los Angeles’ KLSX, but is heard on many other stations on the West Coast.
In 2006, Adam ventured into movies, co-writing and co-producing The Hammer. He also played the lead role in the movie as well. It will be released in March 2008. He has also done voiceover for many animated shows including Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, “Family Guy,” and “Drawn Together.” Leaning on his carpenter skills, Adam filmed his renovation of his childhood home in a show called The Adam Carolla Project, which appeared on TLC.
Adam is married to Lynette Paradise and the couple has two children, twins Natalia and Santino. One of Adam’s hobbies is collecting cars. He has a BMW M3 E-30-generation model, a Datsun 510, a Jaguar sports coupe, an Audi, a Mini Cooper S, a Nissan 350Z, a Ferrari, a Lamborghini 350GT and a Aston Martin.
