Emily is eliminated from Project Runway
Another recreated challenge this week for the contestants on Project Runway. Though it came pretty early in the season as far as I was concerned, we saw an “inspiration through picture” challenge. We saw the same one during season 2 of the show but there were only 7 or 8 contestants left at the time. This week had Tim Gunn taking the group on a tour bus of New York City at night and discharging the designers at different locations. They had an hour to take photos and then would select one the next day to serve as inspiration for a garment of their choice.
I will say that many of the pictures were cool because they were taken at night and in the rain.
The designers had one day to create their garment. This was the first time they would be able to select their own fabrics and have some creative freedom since they could make a garment of their choice. But the designers started to take out the claws and the kid gloves came off as they made some very snide, catty and not so nice comments about the garments produced by their fellow designers.
The guest judge for this episode was Sandra Bernhard. I was kind of surprised at first to see her (they called her an expert on night life or something) but pleasantly surprised to find her knowledgeable about fashion. Some of the outfits that came down the runway were awful and I was surprised when a few of them were declared “safe”
The top three designers were Terri, Kenly and Leanne. Terri designed this really cool open back dress and pant outfit that Michael Kors said had attitude. Leanne created this beautifully simple black skirt and blouse that Heidi said she would definitely wear. But the winner was Kenley with her ugly turquoise and purple retro 80’s dress that would give even the skinniest girl a big tush. Tim Gunn in his blog on the Bravo website said he is still “scratching his head over her design” and to me that isn’t a good thing.
The bottom three designers were Keith, Emily and Jennifer. Keith took inspiration from a tattered magazine but his dress was not so good. There was no shape to it and Kors said it looked like toilet paper blowing in the breeze. Emily tried to use a clock for her inspiration but the outfit came out dowdy and matronly. In the end it was Jennifer who got eliminated. She created this sharp little black dress and tacked on these awful ruffles across the bust line. Tim Gunn told her that it looked like an ugly corsage but she liked it and took it to the runway. And it was a mistake.
Why, oh why, won’t people take Tim’s advice when he gives it? You don’t become Chief Creative Officer of Liz Claiborne if you have no style or talent.

ITA agree about taking Tim’s advice. He is so helpful, if only the designers have the intelligence to listen. I also think that the winner should have been Leanne. That 80’s puff-butt monstrosity was hideous.

Leanne’s dress looked so classy and timeless. I agree that she should have been the winner.
