Evangelin is eliminated tonight on Shear Genius

I have to start off this post with one of the funniest things I’ve seen on television in a long time.  For whatever reason I was watching the ending credits on Shear Genius when I saw this disclaimer – the challenges are performed by licensed stylists, do not try them at home.  Hello?!  I guess the producers don’t want us cutting our hair with box cutters, wire cutters or freakin’ hedge clippers.

Speaking of hedge clippers – Evangelin had become obsessed with them and decided to make them a part of her collection of hair cutting tools.  In tonight’s short cut challenge she trimmed her client’s hair with them.  The other contestants thought she was crazy or obsessed or a fool for using them and made fun of her mercilessly during the beginning of the show.  At one point Evangelin gets into it with Tabatha and Danna about using the hedge clippers to cut hair.  Evangelin thought she found her signature hair cutting tool and her signature hair style – I just think she tippy toed off the deep end.  Even the salon director Renee told her she could not cut clients’ hair with it.

The short cut challenge tonight was a day to night challenge.  Guest judge Linda Wells (Editor in Chief of Allure Magazine) served as the judge for the challenge where the stylists had to create two distinct looks for their client –a day look and evening look.  The clients had to demonstrate the transformation in only five minutes.  Dr. Boogie went crazy in the challenge, giving his client a mullet style cut with his trademark clippers.  He was criticized by Wells who told him there was no versatility to the cut and it could be bordering on ugly.  I agree – it was not that attractive.  Danna won the challenge.

As winner of the short cut challenge, Danna not only got first choice of client, she also got to determine the order in which the others would pick their clients.  She decided to go in the reverse order of Tyson’s selections last challenge.  The order for picking clients was: Tabatha, Anthony, Daisy, Ben, Evangelin, Dr. Boogie and finally Tyson.  The stylists were given two hours to create a red carpet style for actress Vanessa Williams that would flatter not only her but the dress she would be wearing.  She served as the guest judge and would pick the winner of the elimination challenge.

When it came to the hair show I liked the styles by Danna, Tabatha and Daisy.  I did not like any of the other stylist’s work.  The judges picked Danna and Daisy as the top two with Danna the winner.  Ben and Evangelin were in the bottom two.  The judges said that Ben’s hair was a disaster – it was messy, sticky, and Vanessa Williams said she would absolutely not wear that style.  Evangelin presented a style that in the judges’ opinion was unsophisticated and scary, and the tendrils were completely out of style.  Evangelin ended up being eliminated tonight.  When she was leaving it was interesting to see that all of the male contestants went over to hug her while the female contestants kept their distance.  I’m not sure what it means, I just found it interesting.
