Gail Simmons
“Top Chef” returns to the Bravo Channel tonight for the premiere of its third season. Judge and critic Gail Simmons also returns to offer her expert culinary advice and experience. Gail, a Canadian, graduated summa cum laude from the McGill University in Montreal. After that, she attended the Institute of Culinary Education in New York. After finishing the Institute of Culinary Education, Gail began her culinary career writing food articles for the National Post (the national newspaper of Canada) and Toronto Life magazine. She was also the recipe assistant and researcher for Jeffrey Steingarten, food critic for Vogue Magazine. In 2000, Gail apprenticed at Le Cirque 2000 and Vong restaurants.
In addition to her work of “Top Chef,” Gail also works for Food & Wine Magazine. She has been with Food & Wine since 2004 and is in charge of special projects for the magazine such as the Food & Wine Magazine Classic held in Aspen every June. Also, as part of her Food & Wine gig, she appears on shows such as The Early Show on CBS, Fox & Friends on Fox News, and CNBC as a culinary expert. Prior to working for Food & Wine, Gail was the special events manager for Chef Daniel Boulud’s restaurant group, The Dinex Group. Gail has also contributed to the following cookbooks: It Must’ve Been Something I Ate (by Jeffrey Steingarten), Chef Daniel Boulud: Cooking in New York (by Daniel Boulud), and The New American Chef (by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg).
This season, Gail and Tom Coliccio will return to judge the chefs along with Queer Eye for the Straight Guy culinary expert, Ted Allen.
