Glenn is eliminated on Shear Genius
I was a bit surprised with this week’s elimination on Shear Genius. The fact that Glenn was kicked off the show makes me wonder how much input the judges have into the final decision, and how much influence the producers and Bravo people have on the outcome.
The shortcut challenge this week was an interesting one. Kim Vo met the stylists in the salon and challenged them to come up with the most vibrant hair color they could manage for their models. He would also be judging on cut and style, but the main factor was color. To make sure the stylists had a decent chance at being successful they were given four hours for the challenge. And there was a twist – the winner of the shortcut challenge would have immunity from elimination and would also help determine the outcome of the show.
The bottom two stylists in the shortcut challenge were Paulo and Nekisa. Paulo tried to give his model a blue hair color but it came out looking black. Kim Vo said it was because he stripped the color out first. Nekisa’s hair looked really dull. She blamed the sinks and the fact that they were backed up with some other colorist’s blue water but Vo was having no part of it. At the end she was named the worst. After the winner was announced Jaclyn asks her if she had something to say and she griped and moaned and then Smith in a very delicate and professional manner said that people usually appreciate getting criticism because it helps them to grow as people. The top two stylists were Dee and Charlie. Dee did this whole Bird of Paradise color scheme while Charlie did a style to be representative of a carousel horse. Personally I didn’t like either style because I don’t care for crazy colors but they did do a good job on them. Charlie was named the winner and given immunity and Dee was ticked.
Nekisa starts going off on Charlie at the house that night. Big surprise – Nekisa loosing it and Charlie being the target of her rant and rave.
The stylists walk into the salon the next day and see a speaker on the table. Over the speaker comes the voice of Rene Fris who talks to them like Charlie from Charlie’s Angels. And that’s when Jaclyn reveals the challenge – they would work in teams of 2 to modernize the iconic hair styles of the original Charlie’s Angels – Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson and of course Jaclyn Smith. They would have to do all three looks. Charlie got to assign the teams as part of the reward for winning the shortcut challenge. His teams: Nekisa and Dee; Glenn and Nicole; Daniel and Paulo.
Dee totally dominated Nekisa and that partnership, and Glenn took over the one with her and Nicole. They guys seemed to work ok together. Charlie floated from team to team and provided help when needed.
When the stylists got to the hair show they find out that the guest judge is none other than Kate Jackson herself. The judges hated all of the hairstyles – they thought they were caricatures of the originals and that there was nothing updated or modern about them. Kate and Jaclyn said that they would not wear any of the styles that came down the runway that day.
The judges tell the stylists that there would be no winners that night, and they call out Glenn and Nekisa. Everyone is pretty surprised to see Glenn called out. Glenn had accepted responsibility for the style of the model that represented Jaclyn’s character on the show. Nekisa accepted responsibility for the styling of their team’s Farrah model. The judges thought that style was bad – it had no movement and there were holes in it. But in the end it was Glenn who was eliminated. Kim Vo said that Glenn sees Jaclyn every day and there was no excuse for doing the style she did since she should have known that Jaclyn would never wear it herself.
At the end Jaclyn tells the stylists that she hopes they realize the judges are serious now. Heck if the judges want to really be serious then they would have eliminated Nekisa weeks ago in the “do it yourself” challenge when Meredith got the boot instead. But then again there was no girl crush in the house with Meredith, and the whole Nekisa – Charlie dynamic makes for some interesting television. This is why I posed the question above – who has the greatest input into the outcome – the judges or the executives of the show?

Nekisa is a whiny prima donna. I do not find the girl crush aspect of her presence in the house a compelling reason to continue watching this show. Boot her off, already! As for Charlie, he will find another target as soon as Nekisa’s butt gets hit by the door on the way out.

“As for Charlie, he will find another target”
I think you’re 100% right about that. He is definitely there to play the game and is looking out for one person only – himself.

I agree with this whole entry. Glenn’s removal was a JOKE. I SWEAR, if this week someone else goes home instead of that no talent Nekisa, I will stop watching it, and my friends have said the same thing. For 3 weeks in a row we have watched Paolo’s and Daniel”s and everyone elses’ jaws drop at the decision, cuz they have ALL been JOKES and everyone knows it, ESPECIALLY america; I mean really , not one person I talk to, and we are ALL bravo loving fools has not been mad at this stupidity. I am not sure who Nekisa’s is blowing, but this is become extremely annoying. I mean just like Project Runway, sure I thought Wesley was adorable and I loved seeing him iron shirtless, but that dress was hideous and he needed to go.

I’m beginning to think more and more that the decisions are from the executives of the shows and not the experts. At the very end of each show there’s a quick blurb about how elimination decisions were made with input from both the judges and execs. I think this past week that was obvious. So many of the hairstyles were bad that any one of them could have been eliminated. I’m still scratching my head as to why Glenn was singled out. Nekisa is almost always in the bottom two but for whatever reason escapes elimination week after week.
