Ilan and Kenji expelled on Greatest American Dog

On episode 2 of the Greatest American Dog you could notice the inner conflicts and some new ones developing.  JD was not well received since he initially refused to let the other owners and pets come see the “Doggie Suite”.  Most people did not seem to be real happy with Ilan (I have to agree with that one.  I found her to be very annoying and didn’t like the way she handled her dog).  You just knew that a conflict was going to occur between some of the dogs and this evening this happened when my favorite dog Tillman got into a little scrap with Elvis.  It always seems to be the smaller the dog the feistier they can be.  You really can’t blame Ron for being a little upset because it is the responsibility of owners to keep track of their pets and David just wasn’t paying attention to Elvis.  A little scare occurred when Bill and Star outside early in the morning for a little walk.  Something bit Star and he was rushed off to the emergency room.  Luckily it wasn’t anything life threatening and he was able to return to the competition.

The theme of this week’s episode was obedience and the “Dog Bone” challenge reflected this.  To test the dog’s ability to listen to commands, the owners were given a command to use and the dog’s had a given amount of time to follow the command.  Travis and Presley won the competition and choose the previous resident’s of the “Doggie Suite” to stay in the “Dog House”.

For the “Best in Show” challenge, the dogs were further tested on their obedience skills and were also going to be judged on “Dog Manners” and “Grooming and Appearance”.  The remaining contestants were broken down into 2 groups.  Group 1 consisting of

  • Laura and Preston
  • JD and Galaxy
  • Ilan and Kenji
  • Beth Joy and Bella Scarlet

Group 2 consisted of:

  • Theresa and Leroy
  • Bill and Star
  • Laurie and Andrew
  • Travis and Presley
  • Brandy and Beacon

I found the funniest part of this competition was watching Tillman from Group 1with the steak in front of him.  I could just hear him saying (Ummm Steak…….. All Mine).  To Ron’s surprise Tillman controlled himself and didn’t eat it.  I have really found Ilan very annoying since the show started.  I am not a professional dog handler but the way she tried to control her dog really annoyed me.  The constant yelling must be making the dog a mess.  One of the judges Victoria called her out on this and it was funny listening to her give Ilan the same treatment when she was trying to explain herself.

Beth Joy from Group 1 was criticized about putting clothing on her dog.  I didn’t know that experts don’t recommend doing this because it makes the dog hotter than they already are and it makes it hard for the judges to judge the dog’s appearance.  Instead of taking the criticism she just kept going on and on about why she did it.  She was acting like the judges had no place to tell her this.  She now just became the most annoying person on the show to me because Ilan and Kenji were eliminated from the competition.
