Iron Chef America: Battle Artichoke
This week on “Iron Chef America,” Chef Francois Kwaku-Dongo took on Iron Chef Symon in Battle Artichoke. The judges were classical pianist Yefim Bronfman, actress Julie White, and Jeffrey Steingarten.
Chef Kwaku-Dongo served up five dishes: raw and cooked artichoke (which Julie and Yefim liked), artichoke and sunchoke soup (Jeffrey called it delicious), artichoke risotto (Julie felt the artichoke too the background), artichoke fricassee with salt crusted sea bass (Jeffrey wondered if the artichoke was necessary in the dish), and a trio of artichoke desserts.
Iron Chef Symon also served up five dishes: artichoke trio (everyone loved the tart), artichoke benedict (which Yefim said was beautiful to eat and look at), artichoke ravioli, artichoke bake (which Julie saw as a reflection of Symon’s cooking), and roasted halibut with smoked artichoke puree (Jeffrey and Yefim thought the halibut was overcooked).
In the end, Iron Chef Symon pulled out the win, taking taste by 5 points and plating by one point. He lost originality by one point.
