Iron Chef America: Battle Zucchini
This week on Iron Chef America, chef Gabrielle Hamilton decided to take on a chef with a very different style from her own – Iron Chef Bobby Flay. The secret ingredient was zucchini. Personally, I would have loved to have sampled this challenge!
The judges were KB Network News founder Karine Bakhoum, culinary author Michael Ruhlman, and food blogger Louisa Chu.
Iron Chef Flay presented zucchini blini, zucchini noodles, zucchini and basil risotto, zucchini wrapped sea scallops, and tagine of zucchini. The judges seemed to love most of his dishes, although Michael didn’t think the blini had a strong zucchini taste.
Chef Hamilton presented fritto misto, Tunisian zucchini with feta and olives (which Michael said what a zucchini dish should be all about), Sicilian sundried zucchini, zucchini tian, and Greek zucchini fritter.
The judges seemed to praise Chef Hamilton’s dishes a bit more than Iron Chef Flay’s dishes and she was victorious. While they tied on scoring for plating (12), Chef Hamilton had a slight lead on taste (by one point), but it was her 13 score for originality as opposed to Iron Chef Flay’s 10 that gave her the decided edge.
