Iron Chef America: Bobby Flay vs. Peter Kelly
Tonight’s Iron Chef America featured self-taught chef Peter Kelly going up against the King of Southwest Cooking, Chef Bobby Flay. The secret ingredient was cowboy rib eye, which just seemed like it would be right up Flay’s alley.
The judges were Ted Allen (I always love seeing Ted on ICA), Karine Bakhoum, and first time judge, designer Isaac Mizrachi. Chef Kelly presented five dishes: trio of rib eye (Isaac didn’t care for the crepe), grilled rib eye negimaki (Karine thought it has an incredible flavor), surf and turf: rib eye carpaccio, bistecca alla florentina, and grilled cowboy steak, which resulted in a few funny Brokeback Mountain jokes by Ted and Isaac.
Chef Flay presented five dishes as well: hoisin glazed rib eye salad, grilled rib eye with béarnaise and crawfish sauce (which Isaac called “extraordinary” and “delicious”), ode to Philly cheesesteak (which Karine called “very satisfying”), spice rubbed and grilled steak, and southwest style chile glazed rib eye. Thankfully, no one tried to create a rib eye dessert.
I thought Flay had it, but in the end, he lost by 3 points. For taste, Chef Kelly won by a score of 27 to 25. For plating, Chef Kelly won by a score of 12 to 11. And, for originality, the chefs tied with both of them scoring 12. Chef Flay’s record is now 15-7-2.

Bobby Flay’s presentations were great. Shouldn’t have watched this show…I have boneless pork chops ready to cook - now I want steak.
