It’s Food Gone Week in 2005

This week our show starts with Suzy raiding the kitchen for some food.  She finds a sign that says “Your food is gone.  If you want to eat – order in or dine out.”  Since they are confined to the ranch with no communication with the outside world or transportation, the dining out might pose a problem for our contestants on the Biggest Loser.  Never fear – a big black menu of takout food is in the kitchen and Jillian and Bob are there to help their teams make the right choices. The temptation this week was a strange one.  But since I never watched this show before this season maybe it’s par for the course.  The contestants are put in a booth with milkshake shots in front of them.  They have five minutes to drink as many as they can.  The person who drinks the most wins the services of celebrity chef Jackie Keller for the week (and can pick a friend to join them in this reward).  No one can see what anyone else is doing, and there is some clinking of glasses.  Suzy figures everyone else is drinking so she goes ahead and drinks 48 of the milkshake shots (that’s about 1900 calories).  No one else even takes one shot.  Her teammates are resentful that she gave into temptation, but Suzy figures she (and Ryan) might be able to help the team at the weigh in if they can lose more weight than those eating out.

Jillian and Bob take the contestants out to eat – to The Cheesecake Factory of all places.  Everyone seems to order food that is somewhat healthy – everyone except for Matt.  He orders some kind of desert, which Jillian takes from him and covers in salt so he can’t eat it.  That’s just cruel.  Isn’t it a sin to ruin good cheesecake?
The next day arrives and it’s challenge time.  The challenge is for each team to place one person in each car of the train.  There are 36 balls at the end of the train, and they have to move the balls to the other side.  The team to move all the balls first wins.  The prize:  a phone call home.  The girls started off pretty good, but the guys caught up and ultimately won the challenge.  There was a bit of a scary moment when both Ryan and Pete had to be taken off the train in an ambulance, but they turned out to be ok.  Ryan had an asthma attack, compounded by an anxiety attack, and Pete just experienced shortness of breath due to a bad cold.

The men weighed in first this week, and they lost a total of 26 pounds for 1.35% of their total weight.  The women had to lose more than 17 pounds to beat them.  Ryan went last, and she had to lose more than four pounds to win the weigh in – and she pulled it out, losing five. Some serious strategizing takes place before the men’s elimination.  While it seemed as if the plan was to get rid of Seth, Nick was voted off, with 4 votes while Seth had 2 votes.  Nick left without saying goodbye to anyone.  When we looked in on Nick now he said he hadn’t been on a scale since he left the show, but was walking and eating healthy.  He had lost 41 pounds while at the ranch, and you could tell by looking at his face he’s lost some more weight since then.
