Jennie Garth eliminated from Dancing With The Stars in the semi finals
Oh yes, another results show, another “brutal elimination”, another brutal waste of time. Please, please, please just tell me the results and forget about all the fluff. Please ABC, I beg you! Make the results show a half hour next season.
Now that my tirade is over, I can talk about tonight’s show.
As always we start off the night with the encore presentation. I was wondering who would be doing it, Mel and Maks or Helio and Julianne. The judges actually selected Jennie and Derek and their Cha Cha Cha because, as Len put it, it was because it was such a breakthrough performance. Whatever. I guess the encore performance doesn’t have to be the best one of the night, just the one that tickled the judges’ fancy.
Avril Lavigne was the guest musical performer tonight. Her first song was “Hot” from her new album. There she is, with all her own musicians taking up the entirety of the dance floor. Maybe I’m mistaken, but isn’t this show called “Dancing With The Stars” not “Watching Pop Singers Perform?” I know I complain when a musician brings in his/her own dancers, but she didn’t even do that. Plus she didn’t use the house band/orchestra as many of the musical performers do which to me seems like a slap in the face. Of course I might be taking all this just a bit too seriously but here I am, it’s 9:15 pm and I’ve suffered through junk to this point and still don’t know the first couple to be safe and moving on to the finals next week.
Off we go to a backstage interview with the remaining celebrities. Samantha Harris, in her infinite wisdom asks them how they will feel if they don’t make it to the finals after making it this far. Hello, can you rub any more salt into the wounds that will be created for one of them tonight. How do you think they are going to feel? Do you think they’re going to go out and have a party? For the past few months they’ve devoted their lives to this competition – why do you think that they would feel anything less than disappointed.
Finally, at 9:19 pm we find out that the first couple safe and moving onto the finals is Marie and Jonathan. I guess my votes for her this week helped to put her in the finals. I am very happy for this result. Very happy. What do you want to bet that Jonathan is already backstage working on their freestyle routine.
Samantha goes backstage to ask Marie and Jonathan how they feel to be moving forward. How do you think they feel? Let’s say it all together – time suck.
Kenny Mayne does a skit on the dark side or ugly side of ballroom dancing. Can we say it together folks – time suck. OK, the dance rehab skit was kind of funny but hey, it’s a time waster. It was nice to see Laila Ali, Harry Hamlin, Lisa Rinna and Tucker Carlson again on DWTS even if I felt as if it was just to waste even more time in the overblown hour long results show.
Michael Flatley, the Lord of the Dance himself, performed in their commercially sponsored Stars of Dance segment. Was he dressed like an airplane pilot or was it just me? The performance was nice, but I guess I was a little bit disappointed. No, I’m not going to say it was a time suck. I loved the dancing but I was so hoping for a routine that was Celtic influenced. This routine could have been from anywhere, anytime. I just love the Celtic music. I also was disappointed because it did not seem as if Flatley did all that much dancing. What he did was outstanding. I was just hoping for more and for something different.
We are next subjected to a piece about the media and their coverage of the show. Is this just a way for the producers to pat themselves on the back to say how good of a job they are doing? Can you say time waster?
Avril Lavigne performs again, the song “Complicated” and is accompanied by Mark Ballas and Sabrina Bryan (a sneak peak of the DWTS tour – again more self promotion). There was a point the performance where Mark and Sabrina looked at each other and I felt kind of dirty watching them, as if I was a voyeur or something. Same feeling at the end of the routine when Sabrina was on the floor and Mark got on top of her. Ewww………..
After what seems like 10 minutes of commercials, back to the show.
We next see a piece on the four celebrities and why they want to win the show, why they deserve to be in the finals, and just a general waste of time.
9:51 pm and we finally get the names of the second couple safe and moving forward to the finals. Mel and Maks are through to the finals next week.
After more than four minutes of commercials we finally find out the name of the celebrity eliminated tonight in the semi finals. Jennie and Derek got the lowest combined total for the night and Jennie was sent home.

Are you always this negative? If you don’t like watching it turn the TV off.

I agree, a whole hour is stupid. But when you consider the lack of decent shows on ABC, I guess that this is the best the program people can do. We’re just lucky it isn’t an hour and a half.

I guess I could be seen as negative, however you have to agree with me that the show is really bloated. I wanted to find out the results, I did not want to have to watch all the other time fillers. I’d love to see more dancing routines by the pros and even (as I call it) for promotion of the DWTS tour. Those to me are a good use of time.
