Jerry Rice proves the power of the fans
When Dancing With The Stars started eight weeks or so ago, everyone in their right mind (so to speak) would have made Drew Lacey and Stacy Keibler the odds on favorites to win the disco ball trophy. Who would have ever guessed that Jerry Rice would have beat out Stacy Keibler? Jerry out-performed Stacy in the freestyle routine in the finals, but that was probably a fluke. It just goes to show everyone that the fans make a really big statement when it comes to the show. We kept Master P (P Miller) on the show long after he should have gone. (After watching the stars who didn’t make it to the finals perform last night it would be hard to say who was a worse dancer – P Miller or Kenny Mayne.)
If the voting was different during the first season of Dancing With The Stars do you think that the outcome might have been different? We always were voting for the previous week’s performance while the judges’ scores were for the current week. Maybe one week we thought someone had a routine that was more fan-friendly but less technically proficient. The more I think about it (as I’m writing), the more I wonder if John O’Hurley would have won the trophy over Kelly Monaco? Maybe we wouldn’t have seen these two stars in the finals. Maybe my favorite Joey McIntyre would have won. Who knows, we will never know for sure. I think ABC was on the right track when they changed the voting procedure for this season. I’d rather put up with the long, drawn out results shows knowing that the votes were for this week. And maybe ABC will go back to the drawing board and tweak the results show so it won’t seem so boring at times. I got really sick of Samantha Harris asking everyone stupid questions backstage.
