John Ratzenberger eliminated from Dancing With The Stars

Tonight’s results show on Dancing With The Stars was the first one all season where I didn’t feel as if I wasted the 47 minutes up until we found out who was in the bottom two.  Should I be so bold as to think that ABC is actually reading the blogs out there that say something needed to be done about the results show format?  I’m not sure what the reason for the change but THANK YOU!

Let’s get to the elimination first – the bottom two couples were Billy Ray and Karina and John and Edyta, with John finally being eliminated.  He’s made it by the skin of his teeth a few times but unfortunately tonight was his night to leave.  I’m surprised that he got kicked off and not Billy Ray, but I guess there are more fans of Hanna Montana watching the show than fans of Cheers.  Too bad, because I think he’s going to be missed.  As all the celebrities, he was the epitome of class when complementing Edyta.  For their last dance they did the bunny hop with the rest of the celebrities.  I don’t think I’ve seen Tom Bergeron move so quickly so he wouldn’t get dragged into the dance.

The show started, as always, with the encore performance from Monday’s show.  This week Len said the judges had to flip a coin between the two perfect routines, and the coin came up heads so Laila and Maks would perform their samba.  Does anyone out there really think the judges did not use a coin with two heads so they would get to see Laila perform again?  Last night I think we saw an obvious leaning towards Laila as the favorite celebrity.  Not that I’m complaining because I think she is great.  I just think that Len tried to make him and the judges look like nice guys by saying they actually flipped a coin.

Meatloaf was the guest performer this week, and I was so thrilled.  I love Meatloaf, and I love his song “Bat out of Hell”.  Lois Van Amstel choreographed a great number that showcased five different styles of dance.  Tom Bergeron didn’t say what they were, but I think I got them all and hope I got them all correct: jive, rumba, tango, paso doble and samba.  That had to be the best professional number I’ve seen in the four seasons of Dancing With the Stars.  Meatloaf also performed a song titled “Cry Over Me” from his new album, and two professional dancers (I missed their names) danced to it.  I’m happy we saw dancing to this song – I hate it when all we see is the singer performing and no dancing.

Next we were introduced to the skit “Dance Center” where former celebrity contestants Jerry Rice and Kenny Mayne (from ESPN’s Sports Center) sat with Len Goodman to give commentary on the remaining celebrities.  I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard in a while – that was a great idea.  How great was it when Kenny told Len to be quiet, that the only reason he was there was to give the skit some credibility?  I’d love to see Dance Center again, but then that would make it stale.  While we’re speaking of skits, did we really need to see Jimmy Kimmel in bed with his parking lot guy and Tom Bergeron?  I would have liked to have seen more Kenny Mayne and Jerry Rice.

Some young ballroom dancers were on the show, doing a routine choreographed by Alec Mazo.  I know we see the professionals choreograph routines for their celebrity partners each week, but you can really see their talent when they do routines for actual dancers.  He did a great job with the kids.

One last observation.  We see a lot of commercials for Notes from the Underbelly, the new show on ABC, during Dancing with the Stars.  One time they were making jokes about pregnancy boobs.  Did anyone else notice that Samantha Harris can join that club now too?
