Jordin Sparks is the New American Idol!
Was it just me or did tonight’s finale seemed to last FOREVER? Seriously! I only wanted to know who won (which is only announced in like the last three minutes of a two-hour show). It started out okay, but by the end of the first hour, I was tired. And what is up with Randy’s clothes? Paula looked nice, Simon looked nice, and Randy looked strange. Last night, he looked like a Civil War general and tonight it was a cruise ship captain’s jacket. Doesn’t he make enough to hire a stylist?
Watching the Golden Idol awards was somewhat amusing. We got to see the Big Bird Lady, who was a bit more annoying this go around. I thought the Panther Guy was more amusing, but he was a bit scary as well. I enjoyed seeing “bush baby” Jonathan and Kenneth win the Best Buddies award. It was a hoot that Ryan said they were sponsoring a bush baby in the Milwaukee zoo – named Simon!
But, seriously, the amount of, at least in my case, needless talent that appeared was overwhelming. It was like a high school talent show – it just went on and on and on. We saw Gwen Stefani (who could promote her new single, though not in person), Kelly Clarkson, Blake beat boxing with Doug E. Fresh, Tony Bennet, Melinda with the Wayans (which only reinforced the fact that she should have won), Clive Davis present Carrie Underwood with a thing for six million CDs sold (wasn’t it odd that Davis praised Daughtry more than Hicks or McPhee?), the African Children’s Choir, Joe Perry – performing with Sanjaya (as if we really needed more of that!), Green Day (they must have quit doing meth or they’d be dead by now), and of course, last year’s winner, Taylor Hicks. We saw Jordin sing with Ruben and then Bette Midler even performed. Everyone was there but dead Elvis. Finally, finally, finally. they did a tribute to Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Yes, I know it is like the 40 anniversary, but really! And I am not even mentioning all the performances by the top twelve Idols.
All I wanted to know what who won. Well, I knew before it was announced, but 74 million people voted last night and the majority voted for Jordin. She is the new American Idol. Even Blake seemed to know before it was announced. I thought maybe those two were going to miss the announcement since they kept talking to each other!
And of course, what American Idol finale blog would be complete without mentioning the obligatory camera shot of Hasselhofff in the audience. The start of “America’s Got Talent” season is official open!
