Joyce is killed of Soap Star in week 4

I was kind of lukewarm on the show when I started watching it this season – I don’t watch soap operas and I wasn’t sure how I would like I Wanna be a Soap Star.  Well let me tell you that I have been won over and now consider myself to be a fan.  Tonight’s episode put me over the edge, for several reasons.  First, the contestants seem to genuinely be nice people.  I don’t know if this will last, but for right now they all seem to be supportive of each other and we haven’t seen any in-fighting or backstabbing.  Second, I think it’s going to be great to see one of these really talented and driven individuals achieve their goal of being on a soap opera.

The scene for tonight was a beach scene with a choreographed fight.  I guess it was pretty obvious the contestants would be performing with very little clothing when all of them were carted off to get spray tans applied to their bodies.  I guess if I was going to be prancing around in a bikini I’d want to be tan too.  Of course I’ve never worn a bikini and being of Irish descent I can’t even spell tan, but I guess I can see where the producers were coming from when sending them to get all bronzed.

Yet again the contestants had an early call on set, where acting coach Eric M. Stuart introduced them to Alec Musser (winner of season 2 and Del Henry on All My Children) for a sit down conversation.  I’m not too sure what the point of this was other than trying to fill in a few minutes on this week’s episode.  From there the contestants were given some one on one time with Stuart to work on the scene.  Here’s how everyone paired up this week:

Jimena and Ashlee
Yves and Justin
Travis and Bo
Monica and Joyce

The contestants were then given some time with stunt coordinators Jay T. and Maria Rockwell to choreograph the fight at the end of their scene.  The scene also featured a guest actor from Days of Our Lives – Blake Berris (Nick Fallon on the show) and Rachel Melvin (Chelsea Brady) played the third role in the scene.

I thought everyone was pretty good tonight but a few things stood out for me.  It’s ironic because the two actors that really caught my eye tonight as doing some good work were Joyce and Jimena (both ranked as the weakest performers in the show this week).  I loved Joyce and the attitude her wig seemed to give her, and I liked the little attitude Jimena gave pulling down her swimsuit bottom from an apparent wedgie in the scene.

Speaking of bathing suits – how come the women were parading around in tiny suits, some of which were like Band Aids tied together with string, while the guys wore long shorts?  Can we see a little more skin from the gentlemen please!!!!!!

In the end the judges thought Travis, Monica, Jimena and Joyce gave the weakest performances tonight.  They ended up killing off Joyce because they said she was inconsistent and too guarded, never letting it all hang out in a scene.  I thought Jimena or Monica might have been weaker than Joyce but then I don’t get paid the big bucks like the judges.  I do agree with Hogan Sheffer who said that tonight sucked because they had to let go someone who was really talented.  I agree that everyone there is talented, I just thought Joyce should have been on the show longer.
