Justin killed off Soap Star
What is that old quote from W. C. Fields? It’s something like never work with animals or children. Tonight on I Wanna Be A Soap Star the remaining four contestants did not have this choice – their scene tonight was about giving their child up for adoption and their co-star in the scene was a little baby.
The contestants are given the script and a doll to work with for blocking. Eric M. Stuart (acting coach) takes them through the scene and tells the actors that the fact they might not have a child is not an obstacle in the scene, that they should take that and make it work for them. Two of the contestants have children, two do not. The actors are working on the scene, carrying the doll around with them as if it was a child. Then Cameron Mathison makes a surprise appearance early in the show to introduce the actors to their co-star – a baby. Ashlee seems to be the only one not upset about it, while Jimena and Justin are way freaked out. Yves seems matter of fact, thinking that the fact he has a child could work for him but makes it clear that he would not use his child as motivation for the scene.
We got to see quite a bit of the performances of each actor, and I disagreed with the judges and their critiques. They really loved Jimena and Ashlee and didn’t like Justin or Yves all that much. Mary Beth Evans even went so far as to say she would not have believed that Yves had a child based on his performance. Yves took that as a personal insult. I didn’t think Jimena was as good as the judges did, but then again I am not an expert. They also thought Yves was playing too much to the emotion of the baby, but his baby was crying and fussy. I think Yves was just trying to comfort the child and that in itself should have portrayed his paternal instinct. I saw it and can’t believe the judges did not. I think Justin might have psyched himself out because he really did not want to work with the baby. And Ashlee – I thought she was good and as a mom I can tell you I would have been in tears from the first word I spoke in the monologue.
The elimination came between Yves and Justin, with Justin being killed off. When we see the private deliberation of the judges Michael Bruno said that any one of the remaining contestants could be on Days of Our Lives – it would come down to who performed the scene the worst and Justin did the worst job of the four actors remaining.
Is it me or is Cameron Mathison really cold when he tells the actor that he/she is killed off?
The three remaining actors are given a gift – a three minute phone call to the person of their choice. Hogan Sheffer is shocked that the actors had not had any contact with friends or loved ones since they had been there. Ashlee calls her boyfriend; Yves his wife; Jimena her mom.
Next week the Soap network is cashing in on the success of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars by having the contestants have to dance. Karina Smirnoff from the ABC show will be guest starring on the show next week. The remaining two actors will compete and fans will actually be able to vote for the person they want to win the role on Days of Our Lives.
