Kathy Ireland eliminated in week 2 of Dancing with the Stars

Last night on Dancing with the Stars Tom Bergeron hinted that the viewers should tune in early because the elimination would begin right away.  At first I thought it might be true – all the celebrities are lined up on the stage for elimination at the beginning of the evening, but alas no.  We are subjected to a recap of last night’s show before going any further in the show.  And then we get the encore presentation .  Not that I minded it – Mya and Dmitry performed their Jive again from last night – but don’t tell me the eliminations are going to be right away and tease me with the lineup on stage.  The Jive was just as good as last night I thought.  I would have rather seen Donny and Kym’s Jive, but their scores weren’t as high so I can see why the judges decided to see this one.

Tom and Samantha tell us that this week we’ll find out the name of the other celebrity who landed in the bottom two.  Then we get the recap of the judges’ leader board from last night.  I guess that’s meaningful, maybe.  Finally we hear the first elimination announcement:  Donny and Kym, Mya and Dmitry and Aaron and Karina are all safe.  Tom reminds the viewers that these were the top three scoring couples.

Joss Stone performs next, accompanied by two awesome dancers.  But the hosts never give us their names.  A story about how the show has built its own six studio training center is next.  The elimination announcements for the three couples who scored 21 points last night is next.  We find out that Mark and Lacey and Natalie and Alec are safe, but Debi and Maks are still in jeopardy.

We return for an exercise in cross promotion, when Disney Channel star Selena Gomez (The Wizards of Waverly Place) sings her debut single.  She’s accompanied by Derek and Karina who were awesome.  Selena isn’t that bad either – I just am cynical about the whole Disney Channel / ABC self promotion thing.  Samantha gives one of her stellar interviews, after which Tom refers to her and Kym as sexy Chia Pets.  We find out whether or not the couples who scored 20 points last night are safe.  We find out that Joanna and Derek and Michael and Anna are both safe this week.

Right after commercial break we find out the status of the four couples who scored 19 points.  Chuck and Anna, Melissa and Mark and Kelly and Louis are safe.  Louie and Chelsie are still in jeopardy.

There’s a bit about the bad habits of the celebrities, followed by the Macy’s Stars of Dance.  It featured the USC Trojan Marching Band and it looked as if it was a really fun time.  This is one of the performances that I would have loved to see in person.

Joss Stone is back and is accompanied by pros Anna T., Cheryl, Louis and Dmitry.  Those dancers are amazing.  After a boring backstage interview we find out that Tom and Cheryl are safe, leaving Kathy and Tony in jeopardy.

We find out the dramatic announcement that Louie and Chelsie are safe and the bottom two couples this week are Debi and Maks and Kathy and Tony.  In the end it was Kathy Ireland who was eliminated.  It’s too bad – she seemed like a really nice person.  And she was so gracious in defeat.
