Kevin is eliminated on Project Runway tonight
I just finished watching Project Runway tonight and I am in complete shock. I just can’t believe that Kevin was eliminated from the show. How he could have been eliminated when Ricky and Christian were saved is beyond me. Now this is not a comment on the talent of the designers overall, just based on the garments that were put out by them tonight. Oh well…
Tonight’s challenge was to create a dress for one of the most important days in a woman’s life – her prom. The clients were actual high school students from a Catholic school in New Jersey (St. John somebody, Lord forgive me for not getting the name of it but I could not understand Heidi). The designers had two days and $250 to create a dress for these young women. Now I’m probably dating myself but I don’t think I spent $250 total on my prom dress, shoes, accessories, and the cost of getting my hair done. Of course when I went to the prom you had to buy a crinoline slip to push out the massive volume of dress. I wonder what that would translate into for retail cost of a dress? The girls picked the designers based on their portfolios. For the most part the girls seemed opinionated but willing to work with the designers – that is, all of them except for Christian’s client. She considered herself to be a fashion designer as well and had some specific and definite opinions on the dress she wanted created for her.
Christian just is beside himself with the dress and his client. When she comes in for a fitting early on the second day of work with her mother, they are all over him and the dress. He’s ready to throw in the towel until Tim gives him a pep talk late in the day, saying that he is too good of a designer to give in. Tim also gives some advice to Kevin, telling him that he should hem his dress, advice which he ignores.
The guest judge for tonight’s runway show was Gilles Mendel. On the runway tonight I liked the dresses created by Sweet P, Chris, and Jillian. The judges rated Victorya and Sweet P as their top two designers, with Rami, Kevin, Christian and Ricky in the bottom. Victorya’s dress was cute, just not very prom like as far as I was concerned. The judges named Victorya the winner, saying her dress was cute, adorable, and what a modern prom dress should be. I preferred Sweet P’s dress myself.
As for the bottom four, the judges were harsh. They said that Rami’s dress was too old in terms of color and that he designed for himself, not for the client. Nina was really upset at Christian, saying that he tried to blame the shortcomings of the dress on the client, but the client did not sew or execute the dress. Ricky’s dress was poorly made (yet again) and the judges thought the color washed the client out. Kevin’s dress was cheap looking and the color made the client look old. They said the overall look was cheap, and the girl looked as if she was 17 going on 40.
The bottom two were Kevin and Christian, and Kevin was sent home. I guess the bigger sin tonight was making your client look old instead of not taking responsibility for your design. I don’t know how Ricky was saved tonight – his dress reminded me of a paper sack and the color was really pale and kind of awful. But yet again Ricky is saved. Why, I have no idea. I guess the producers think he makes for better television. Even though Rami was in the bottom he had immunity, so it really didn’t matter what he sent down the runway. I’m just really disappointed that Kevin went home tonight. I had him pegged to be in the final three and showing at Bryant Park.

I was in love with Chris’ dress - it was so pretty and so prom, I was so surprised! And Christian - he is usually so catty, but he just folded under the pressure of the bossy little teenager, didn’t he? I was surprised by that - I thought he would have fought back more. The dress was hideous, but I think the intricate detail he put on it may have been what saved him. Kevin should have taken Tim’s advice, but I agree with Heidi - the dress it did look $29.95! I was glad Sweet Pea did well, but I wish she had won.
I was also a bit surprised by Rami’s dress. It was flawless like all his dresses, but he didn’t make a prom dress for his client - he made a dress for Rami, which shows he isn’t very versatile.
My pick for final three are Rami, Jillian, and Christian (as long as he doesn’t let another teenage girl run over him).
