Kirsten is kicked off American Princess week 6
I missed last week’s episode of American Princess (week 5) but was able to catch this week’s one (thanks to the magic of DVR). Since Crystal was no longer in the group I guess it’s safe to assume she was eliminated on last week’s show.
This week the remaining five girls would be introduced to two English traditions – tea and cricket. The show begins with Paul Burrell giving the girls a lesson on how to have a tea ceremony / party / get together. (I’m not too sure what the proper way of referring to it would be.) He begins by asking each girl to come forward and make him a cup of tea. None of them was able to do so in the traditional, “proper” British way. I thought he would blow a gasket when Letoshua asked him where the tea bags were! It was pretty funny. He goes through the steps for the ladies as to how a proper pot of tea is brewed and told them he hoped they were listening, because their challenge this week would be to host a tea party.
Later Jean Broke-Smith and James Whitaker take the girls to the famous Berekley Hotel. I would think you pronounce it as it is spelled but everyone kept calling it the “Barkley” hotel. The girls thought they were going there for tea but were surprised to learn they would be instructed on some of the points on how to create the food for a tea party by the chefs of the Berekley. Kirsten, as always, needed to be the center of attention and kept flirting with and coming on to the French sous chef who taught them how to decorate “biscuits” (aka cookies). Again Jean reminds the girls that they would be hosting a party for 10 – themselves and 5 VIP guests, to include a member of royalty.
Back at the house the girls were assigned responsibilities for preparing the food for the party. Clarissa and Letoshua baked scones. Jasmine and Kirsten did the cookies. Cassie made the sandwiches. Actually you could say that Jasmine did the cookies – Kirsten designed the decorations for the cookies (miniatures of the dresses the girls would be wearing to the party the next day) but it was Jasmine who stayed up all night to decorate every last cookie. The girls who made the scones did a boo-boo. For the party they sliced them and filled them to be served, instead of allowing the guests to prepare the scones themselves.
At the tea party the next day we find out who the VIP guests were. Three of the beaus, Catherine Oxenberg and her mother, Princess Elizabeth of Yugoslavia. Even though the country no longer exists she still has the title for life. Cassie is the only one to curtsy to the princess, while Jasmine sees her doing it and curtsies herself. After the party the girls and their guests enjoy an exciting game of croquet.
Jasmine and Clarissa were named the winners of the challenge – Jasmine for her effort in making and decorating the cookies; Clarissa for the way she handled herself in serving food to the guests at the tea party. They were rewarded by a trip to a tennis match with one of the beaus. The three girls who lost the challenge were trapped in the mansion with Jean learning the fine art of hand written thank you letters.
Next the girls get a lesson in how to play cricket by the England Women’s Cricket Coach. The next day the girls, the beaus and some of the women from the national team would be playing in a cricket match. I’m not sure you call it a match, I’ll just use that word anyway. As the winners of the challenge Jasmine and Clarissa are the captains of the teams and get to select their players. Clarissa picks Letoshua before some of the professional players which was a surprise, but I guess she knew best because it was her team who won the game.
When it came to the elimination, the judges were unanimous in sending through Jasmine and were pretty harmonious on the choice of Clarissa. There were some differences of opinion on Cassie, but she made it into the top three of the week. The bottom two were Letoshua and Kirsten, with Kirsten being sent home. She gives us this emotional type of goodbye speech to the girls which was pretty funny, because right after she left Clarissa and Letoshua tells each other how glad they were for her to go.

I don’t think that’s the impression the producers of American Princess wanted to get across, because I know that’s not what I saw on the show. I guess it would make it easier to justify an elimination decision if certain pieces of information are put in the show or left out of the show.
