Kristi Yamaguci wins season 6 of Dancing With The Stars

The second part of the Dancing With The Stars finale started off slow for me. A recap of last night, some behind the scenes interviews, blah blah blah. I’m going to try and keep a positive outlook on the time wasters tonight in this show but I’ll make no promises.

Up first was a performance by musical guest Usher, his hit “Love in the Club” and was it me or did he lip synch this performance? And he brought his own dancers with him which I hate. And the lyrics seemed a bit risqué for a family type show.

After a bit from previous celebrities on who they think will win, we get the first elimination. Cristian and Cheryl are eliminated but do get to dance the routine they would have done if they were in the top 2 – the Paso Doble, their favorite dance of the season. That’s a hard dance on the arms for the guys and I thought Cristian did well. It was kind of touching to see Cheryl cry when she watched the retrospective of their time on the show. She truly seemed to like him. And did anyone catch him tell Jason “good luck man” as he left the stage to be interviewed by Tom and Samantha.

There’s a segment next with a recap of weeks 1 and of DWTS and then performances by Penn and Kym and Jonathan and Monica. In previous finals didn’t they just perform a bit from their routines and not the whole thing? I’m getting antsy at this point because I really want to see Kristi and Jason do their performances.

After the commercial break Steve and Anna performed their Tango, and then a recap of weeks 3 and 4. Adam and Julianne performed the Paso Doble next and I have to say that I nearly peed my pants laughing when I listened to Adam Carolla in his post dance interview. He said that DWTS is the reason why terrorists hate us. In a nutshell (and not quite as funny as he did it), men, women, black, white, Asian, gays, straight and all work together for a common goal – to win the mirror ball trophy.

We next find out that Brandon and Brittany win the DWTS junior competition. In a previous week Samantha had asked Brandon what celebrity he’d want to dance with and he said a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader. The show actually got three cheerleaders to present them with their trophy. Brandon looked like one happy teenage guy.

Priscilla and Louis performed next and then a funny bit about relationships that grow on the set of DWTS – specifically the friendship of Jason and Cristian. Cheryl called it a “bro-mance” but I wonder if they were going to call it a “show-mance” like the romantic relationships that had developed in previous seasons. Marlee and Fabian, eliminated in week 6, performed next. Shannon and Derek and Mario and Karina also perform, as we wait for the time when the actual finalists will take the floor.

Marissa and Tony perform after the next commercial, then lots of time fillers until we are subjected again to Usher and his lip synching performance. His dancers and a few of the DWTS pros danced, but the pros from the show were on the stage for about 1 minute. Again I prefer to watch the ballroom dancers perform, not the dancers from the musical act’s show.

AT 10:30 the Rocky music started playing and finally we get to see what we’ve all been waiting for – Kristi and Jason to perform again. Kristi and Mark performed their first Jive from the season that got them a perfect 30 and tonight was no different – they got a 30 again. This gave them a perfect 90 out of 90 for the finals, a feat that had never been accomplished before.

Edyta and Jason danced their Quickstep from the season and it was even better than it was a few weeks ago. Len went as far as to say that while Kristi is the judges’ champion Jason is the people’s champion. They got a 30 for the performance, and ended up the finals with an 81 out of 90.

After some more fluff we find out what we have all been waiting for – that Kristi Yamaguci won Dancing With The Stars and took home the ugly mirror ball trophy as champion.
