Kristy Swanson and Lloyd Eisler win Skating With Celebrities
I was so not looking forward to tonight’s show. First, it really hasn’t been the spectacular show I was hoping for. Also, I knew the producers and Fox would do everything they could to drag things out until the absolutely had to show the final competitive performances. Fox certainly didn’t disappoint – tonight’s 60 minute show seemed more like 60 hours.
We’re first treated to encore performances by the finalists. I’m sure the producers thought this would just get our excitement and anticipation flowing – all it did for me was let me finish folding the laundry without missing anything important. I did see part of an interview with Kristy Swanson – the interview where she refers to partner (and now love interest) Lloyd Eisler as a big brother. Does anyone else find this sick, twisted and disgusting or is it just me? Isn’t that illegal in most US states?
The eliminated celebrities and professionals then join the show for a group performance to “Respect”. Unmemorable is the best way I can think of to describe this routine – with the exception of Nancy Kerrigan’s costume. Whoever picked that out for her should be fired.
Kristy and Lloyd perform their free program first to the song “Superfreak”. Kind of fits in my opinion. I guess it was a good performance, but all I could think about was Lloyd’s then-pregnant estranged wife claiming that Kristy and Lloyd hooked up while Lloyd and she were together. I just can’t get that scandal out of my head.
John Zimmerman and Jillian Barberie performed last to “Breathe” by Faith Hill. I thought Jillian even looked kind of like Faith in her costume and with the way her hair was styled. The routine was almost flawless – up to the point Jillian hit the deck while attempting an axle jump.
At the end of the show, after Lloyd and Kristy were crowned champions, one thought came to mind. There’s that country song named something like “I can’t believe I shaved my legs for this” or something along those lines. All I could think was I can’t believe I gave up an extra hour of sleep for this.
