Last Comic Standing: First Five Finalists are Chosen

I hate to sound like a broken record, but this show has let me down again – at least a little. Tonight they were to pick the first five finalists and honestly, I can only get behind two, maybe three of the choices. Adam Hunter was selected, and while he had a rapid-fire delivery, I just didn’t find is sidesplitting funny. It was amusing. Jeff Dye was also chosen. I thought his set seemed to drag a bit until he reached the part about being at the gym and the laying on your stomach machine being eyelevel to the open crotch machine. That was funny, but I am still no 100% behind this choice.

God’s Pottery was chosen a finalist. They are funny – no doubt, but I just can’t see these guys doing some of the challenges. How are they going to heckle without coming out of character and even if they can, will it be funny? I thought Lioz was hilarious – even called my husband into the living room to see the Bill Gates Picking His Nose routine. But, I couldn’t see him not transitioning over well to the show. I have the same feeling about God’s Pottery.

Ron G was chosen. I am sorry, that should have been Ron W (for wrong), because to me, this was a wrong choice. Ron was funny, but was he one of the funniest five there tonight? Not in my opinion (sorry Ron if you read this). I thought Erin Jackson’s joke about “I’m not gay but I don’t see why that should stand between me and my white trophy wife – how else can I prove I made it?” was much funnier than Ron’s stuff.

I think I seriously would have stopped watching this season had they not chosen Paul Foot. He had me laughing so hard I was literally crying. I dunno - maybe you just have to get British humor, but I thought I was going to die during the moist cake routine (“You must have literally poured water in the mix when you were making this cake.”).

So, who did I think should have made it instead of Adam Hunter, Ron G. and even possibly Jeff Dye? I thought Dan Naturman was hilarious with the Prevacet joke and the requiring a photo of a woman holding today’s paper when Internet dating. Dale Jones (who could fill in Jim Varney in those films now) was funny, but somehow, I don’t think the audience got him. He started off a little weak with the nookie joke, but I loved when he said he is not allowed in the gene pool and that his sperm has a poster in the post office wearing floaties. Oh well, our loss.

Shazia Mirza was funny. I liked the joke about the woman not wanting to sit next to her on a plane – “I’m going to sit on this plane and blow it up and you think you are going to be safer 3 rows back?” Andi Smith killed me when a one-legged guy told her she was almost a bitch because of one of her jokes and she told him with his wooden leg, he was almost a table. I mean – come on people, THIS is funny! The Meehan Brothers with their charity benefits (Horseback Riding for Hemmoroids) was funny, but like Lioz, not for the show.
