Last Comic Standing: Iliza Shlesinger Wins!
I am thoroughly disappointed by tonight’s Last Comic Standing results. After a song by God’s Pottery, shameless Olympic advertising, a review by The Soup guy, a set by last year’s winner, Jon Reep, a blatant plug for Deal or No Deal (someone will win a million dollars), jabs by Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, they finally said goodbye to the first comic, Louis Ramey. What? WHAT? Louis was THE most polished and funniest of the final five as far as I am concerned. But, I recovered, after all, my second favorite Jim Tavare was still in the competition.
At least until Jon Lovitz finished his set. Then Jim was told he was eliminated too. My husband had to stop me from turning the show off at this point, I honestly didn’t care who won between Iliza, Jeff, and Marcus.
Then, to make matters worse, they brought out the judges I despised the most – Richard Belzer and Steve Schirripa. Now I felt like LCS was personally trying to tick me off. I jinxed Marcus by saying if he didn’t win, I was turning the show off. At least I liked his Christopher Walken impersonations. I like Iliza, but not better than Louis or Jim. Seriously, Louis and Jim got the least amount of votes? Were there hanging chads somewhere or what?
The next comic to leave was Jeff Dye or as I like to call him Jim from The Office. Yes, Jeff is cute and has his hilarious moments, but still not funnier than Louis or Jim (yes, I am going there again). So the finale was between Iliza, who killed every time she performed and Marcus, who Hef’s girlfriends loved. Each performed one last time. They are both good comics, but still not funnier than…okay, never mind, I’ve made my point.
Finally in the last five minutes of the show, we found out who won but not before Iliza’s dad said that win or lose, she was their gold medalist. Please – stop with the Olympic references – we get it, it starts tomorrow. Anyhow, this year’s last comic standing is Iliza Shlesinger, the first female to win. And the show ended with Bill Bellamy plugging America’s Got Talent, sigh.

Totally surprised by this outcome. Then again, people like the annoying Dane Cook, so the female version makes sense. Maybe since I’m not 20 and partying every night anymore that I just don’t relate? But I think it’s because I like some intelligence in comedy, otherwise why not just give an hour of fart jokes.
We did of course vote Bush into the White House - TWICE. How did that turn out people? And uh what’s Taylor Hicks up to these days anyway?
As far as talent, range, and interesting topics, she shouldn’t have made the top 5. Annoying girl in a bar joke - heard it already
Had they kept the old format, Iliza would have been exposed as the talentless hack she is. How many more (of the same) annoying girl impressions, drunk stories and funny walks can she possibly make up? We soon won’t see.
Louis Ramey was more polished. Sean Cullen made every other comedian crack up. Adam Hunter was pure rapid fire energy. Jeff Dye, funny and likeable. Tavare, ironic and witty. Marcus had talent come out of his ears with great impressions, observational humor, and connecting with the audience. Iliza - what did she have? Exposure.
With the weird new format, she got to perform 2 more times than anyone else. In fact, Marcus won immunity on the semifinal show so he didn’t have to perform - which actually hurt him for not getting the exposure.
Well at least college kids will have someone to hold in high esteem next to Dane Cook. Just with nicer boobs. Though Dane has better nipples.
