Last Comic Standing Premiere
Tonight’s premiere of Last Comic Standing packed in three audition sites – New York, Montreal, and San Antonio. Rather than just concentrating on the U.S. this year, the show will also go to London, and Sydney to look for the funniest comedian. The judges this year are all previously on the show – Ant, Kathleen Madigan, and Alonzo Bodden.
In New York, the standouts (at least in my opinion) were Joe Devito, Amy Schumer, Arj Barker, Dwayne Kennedy, and Jane Condon. They all made it through to the next round. I thought Chris White and Calise Hawkins were funny too, but apparently, the judges or the audience didn’t – at least not enough to make it through to the next round.
Montreal only had three open slots and I think the judges and audience made a mistake by not sending Richard Ryder through to the next round. He seriously had me laughing – much more than Mel Silverback. Mel was dressed as an ape and while he was kinda funny, I thought Richard was much funnier. I loved, loved, loved Debra Digiovanni. They should just let her go through to the actual show – she was that funny. The last comedian chosen from Montreal was Gerry Dee. I remembered him from last year and he is pretty funny.
The final stop was San Antonio. I loved Bob Biggerstaff, Robert Hawkins, and Roy Wood Jr. Wood’s “I have a George Foreman Grill and a Shrek II DVD. I started filling out a will and half way through, it became a suicide note” joke was hilarious. Unfortunately, none of those guys made it though. They did choose Sabrina Matthews, who I only found mildly amusing, Andi Smith (like Sabrina, I found her only mildly amusing), and Ralph Harris, who was funny.
I was a bit disappointed in tonight’s show. I only liked about half the comedians sent through to the next round.
