Last Comic Standing: Tempe, Arizona – Last Stop Before Hollywood
Tempe had a lot to offer tonight. We finally saw the two comedians that NBC has been playing constantly on the commercials – Ryan Hamilton (“I’m the love child of Jerry and Elaine”) and Lavell Crawford (“Don’t panic – I swell up like this when I am nervous”). Fortunately, both were really, really funny guys and made it through to the finals.
Also making it through was Chuck Roy. I loved his joke about telling his hairdresser to make him look like Alabama going to the Grammys in 1982 – that one had me rolling! The Capital One Audience Favorite was John Caparulo. He was simply hilarious. I loved when he was talking about people who go to a movie and say the book was much better. His response? “Shut up nerd. They invented movies because books suck.” When faced with the statement that books can tell him so much more, John said “I trust Tom Hanks to tell me all I need to know.” Just too funny!
Also making it through to the finals was Greg Warren. His comedy was a bit dark at times, but still had the audience rolling. My only complaint was they couldn’t send six comedians through, because Suli McCullough was very funny and I would have loved to have seen more of his act.
Next up, Hollywood. There is going to be some tough competition – there have been some great comics chosen to go to the finals.
