Last Comic Standing: The Premiere
This was the season premiere of LCS and they were searching for the funniest people in NYC and Tempe, Arizona. In NYC, the judges were Richard Belzer and Steve Schirripa. Those chosen to move on were Louis Ramey, Stone and Stone, God’s Pottery, Esther Ku, and Dan Naturman. I loved Louis Ramey’s tanning joke (he’s a black guy who just stands outside the tanning salons and screams). Stone and Stone were pretty funny, although the simultaneous talking of the twins got on my nerves a bit. Esther Ku – cute, yes – funny, not so much. God’s Pottery was funny, but it didn’t make me laugh out loud. It was like they stole an old Saturday Night Live skit. Speaking of making me laugh out loud, Dan Naturman did. I loved his joke about Star Trek and the Internet – “Captain, we have an instant message from the Romulan command.” Too funny! I hate that Adam Sank didn’t make it – I thought he was funnier than Esther Ku, but I guess you have to have the cute girl up there.
As for Tempe, I didn’t think the acts were as good. The only one I really liked was Marcus. Anyone that does a Christopher Walken impersonation is going to get my vote. Judges Fred Williard (I had to howl when the Alien Warrior Comedian wondered if he was still alive) and Kathy Najimy put March, Phil Palisoul (who was funny), and Adam Hunter. The field was weak, but they chose the three best comedians.
