Marlee Matlin is eliminated from Dancing With The Stars in Week 6
If it’s Tuesday night then it must be the results show for Dancing with the Stars.
As always there is a recap of the previous night’s performances at the top of the show. We also see some “confessional” interviews with the contestants. Usually I just half listen to it but not tonight. If there was any question about whether Derek and Shannon are a couple then it was answered tonight when Derek took so personally the critiques of the judges that were made of Shannon’s lack of hip action. He was very animated when he stated his opinion that the judges missed the hip action while they gave 9’s and 10’s to contestants who were less than technically proficient.
The encore performance tonight was the group dance. Big surprise. I kind of figured that one out when everyone came out in their country gear. Len said it wasn’t the best dance of the night but it was the most fun. Again I thought it was kind of frenetic.
Ashlee Simpson was the musical guest. She performed some song from her new album and was accompanied by some dancers I didn’t recognize. Why don’t these musical guests utilize the talent that is already associated with the show? Why do they have to cart in their own dancers? Sometimes I think the DWTS junior competitors could have done a better job dancing.
It’s interesting to note that Ashlee only performed one song. Usually the musical guests perform two songs. The cynic in me is wondering if she was afraid that the wrong background vocal track would be played for the second song. But like I said that’s the cynic in me. Is it live or is it Memorex?
Elimination time. We find out that Shannon and Derek are safe while Marlee and Fabian are in the bottom two.
In the Macy’s Stars of Dance segment we had some of the dancers from Riverdance. Amazing, absolutely amazing. This is one time you won’t read from me complaints about this being a waste of time. I could have watched them for the entire hour.
The Dancing with the Stars junior competition was next. The first couple was two 13 year olds, Brandon and Brittany, and she did a great job. She was like a Mini Me of Edyta or Cheryl. She had a glitch with her costume during their Cha Cha Cha and handled it like a pro. She revealed that she is deaf in her right ear but you would never know it. Austin and Liza, two 12 year olds were next, dancing the Samba. Tom Bergeron said if they are 12 then he is 20. They danced a very mature and polished performance. The judges said that both couples were very talented and possible future DWTS pros, but they decided to send Brandon and Brittany forward in a split decision.
Elimination time. The couples had changed out of their country garb so I guess it’s more dignified to be sent packing in ballroom costumes. Marissa and Tony and Cristian and Cheryl are safe. Cristian was not afraid to show how happy he was to be saved.
After some interviews with Marissa and Cristian and a commercial break we go back to the eliminations on the stage. Kristi and Mark and Jason and Edyta are safe. That means Mario and Karina are in the bottom two with Marlee and Fabian. The celebrity sent home tonight: Marlee Matlin. Not a big surprise. She was starting to really struggle.
