My semifinal recap for Dancing With The Stars

I guess the best way I can describe my reaction to tonight’s semi finals of Dancing With The Stars is that I was wowed and not wowed.  There were a few performances that were great, and a few that I tried to fast forward through my TiVo to get them over with so I could see the next dance.  Now don’t get me wrong, I think that all of the celebrities left in the competition deserve to be there and I think they all performed well enough tonight, but some of the performances left me a little flat.  Not bad – just not as good as the other performances.

Apolo and Julianne.  What an awesome night for these two.  I think they were completely robbed in the scores for their Cha Cha – what was Len thinking when he called the dance too raunchy?  Maybe if Len had a little more raunchiness in his personal life he wouldn’t be such a stick in the mud.  I am afraid that the 29 is going to put him in the bottom two, just because there were two other couples with perfect 30’s for both routines.

Ian and Cheryl.  At first I thought Ian was a good dancer, but he’s probably my least favorite of all the celebrities left in the competition.  I’ve said before that I have problems with the music selection for some of the dances, and I just didn’t get the music selection for their Tango.  I wanted to here something with a Spanish influence.  Their jive was boring to me.  I almost pushed the TiVo button to scroll though it but thought better of it just in case something exciting happened in the performance.  The judges disagreed with me though, and gave him a perfect score for his jive.

Laila and Maks.  I have to route for Laila because she is the last female celebrity left, but once again I disagreed with the judges.  Her performances tonight were good but left me feeling somewhat disappointed.  Again I’m just the armchair commentator and not an expert, but I have seen other performances from her that I enjoyed more.

Joey and Kym.  What can you say about Joey?  He was right on tonight and I thought both of his performances were awesome.  He said that he realized he needed to win the fans over tonight and I think he clearly did that.  His performances were exciting and entertaining and well deserving of the perfect scores.

I think that Laila and Joey might have the leg up for being safe just because they had perfect scores tonight.  Unfortunately my gut is saying that Apolo and Ian will be in the bottom two.  I’d hate to see Apolo go so I need to go onto the ABC web site and vote for him!
