Nadia Comaneci is fired on tonight’s Celebrity Apprentice
I’m really starting to think that Donald Trump has softened in his old age. Either that or he is being extremely easy on the celebrity contestants. I was surprised at the boardroom tonight, because I think if this were a real season of Apprentice (meaning people trying for a job with Trump) the outcome would have been much different.
Tonight’s task was for each team to produce a 30 second ad for the Pedigree Adoption Drive program, where the makers of Pedigree dog food donate money to help homeless dogs when their product is purchased. Trump gives the teams the task and then tells them they have to pick a project manager right then and there. Team Empresario (the women) select Nely Galan as their project manager. This makes sense since she is a television producer and formerly the entertainment president for the Telemunduo network. The men (team Hydra) pick Gene Simmons to be their project manager.
Nely approaches this in a very aggressive way, meeting with the executives of the company and taking total charge of the set. Marilou comes on as director and voice coach for the actors. The rest of the team seems to play a minor role, if at all. Omarosa mentions that she knows to stay away from the creative side of this project.
Simmons takes control on the men’s side, with Stephen Baldwin serving as director. While the women decided not to cash in on celebrity, the men use Lennox Lewis as the star of their spot. Lennox is an animal lover and they thought it would be very surprising to see him in a soft kind of way interacting with the animals. The rest of the men are kind of bothered by the fact that these two take total control of the project. When it came time to do the editing, Gene sends them back to the hotel. Tito Ortiz comes back with the rest of the team, saying he did not trust Gene or Stephen and that he was worried.
Oh, and the whole controversy of Gene insulting Trump’s daughter Ivanka – mountain out of a molehill. Ivanka comes to observe the men and starts asking questions. Gene tells Stephen that “she’ll wait” and ignores her. This ticks her off. Then Gene makes a very sexist comment saying that he did not want to share too much information with her since she’ll probably go running back to her “sisters” and tell them everything that the men are doing. Omarosa later said that this was an attack on Ivanka’s integrity. A smart move on Omarosa’s part, gaining points with the two Trumps.
The executives of Pedigree, while insulted that Hydra did not meet with them, picked their ad as the winner. They liked it so much that they are going to run it during a dog show being televised on network TV this year. They also liked Empresario’s ad, but “loved” the one from Hydra.
In the boardroom Trump tells Nely that she just went overboard. They did not think the women had enough time to fully execute their vision. Nely brings back Carol and Nadia. I don’t know why she picked Carol because I don’t think she did anything to deserve to be called back in. She picked Nadia just because the actors were hungry and Nadia had not ordered food and refreshments for them in a timely manner. Trump agreed that Carol did not belong there, that Marilou should have been in there instead. If this were a real Apprentice season he would have sent Carol out and brought Marilou back in. He tells Nadia that he thinks she could lead herself very well, but could not lead others so he fired her. Hello. The ad was not a success in the fact that the executives picked the other one as the winner. The person to blame for the failure is the person in charge of the creative vision. That would be Nely. Therefore I think Trump should have fired her and not Nadia.
