Nely Galan is eliminated from Celebrity Apprentice
When I first started watching Celebrity Apprentice I thought it was kind of fun. Now I’m not so sure I like it anymore. I think having a celebrity version of this show takes it too far away from the original premise – earning a job with Donald Trump. The celebrities don’t seem to have the same personal stake in the competition as those in the regular version of the show. I think that this makes the show less likeable. I’ll explain.
The show starts last night with Stephen Baldwin asking to speak with Donald Trump. He tells him that he wants to resign because he can no longer work with Piers Morgan. Trump tells him not to be a quitter, that he would reassign him to Empresario. Could you see this happening in a real season of Apprentice? I’m sorry Mr. Trump but even though I put my life on hold to compete in your reality program for the career opportunity of a lifetime I can’t deal with X so I quit. Not going to happen. There’s no way Trump would even pick someone like this to compete on the show. But I digress.
Trump makes the announcement that Stephen is joining Empresario, and Omarosa tells him that they respectfully decline the offer. Trump tells her it is non negotiable. Stephen informs the women that he won’t be there for the first part of the challenge due to a prior commitment. Omarosa is mad, saying that you don’t take a new job and then not show up on your first day of work.
Let me say once again that you would never see this happen in a real Apprentice. When a close family member of Apprentice Randall (from a few seasons ago) died I don’t think he was going to even ask to attend the funeral. Trump made the decision for him, letting him use one of his helicopters to go to the funeral so he would not miss out too much on the competition.
Last night’s challenge was to create a living window promoting the Vera Wang designed mattress from Serta. Omarosa was PM for Empresario; Lennox Lewis for Hydra. The women were all over the challenge, honing in on Vera Wang’s reputation as a wedding gown designer and did a theme of “The Perfect Marriage”. They had actors in the window portraying a wedding scene wearing Wang’s creations. The men did a historical romance with a modern take – Marc Antony and Cleopatra in a bed with a cell phone, laptop computer and tv. Trace Adkins came up with the creative ideas yet again. While Vera Wang loved both designs the women’s was not as creative and the Serta executive liked Hydra’s concept better. Empresario’s concept was too much Vera, not enough Serta.
In the boardroom Stephen and Omarosa both go after Marilou as the weak link in the task. When asked who she would bring back, Omarosa said Stephen by default since he was not there for most of the challenge. Trump tells her that this would be a mistake, and not to pull a Gene Simmons and ignore his advice. She then says she wants to have everyone stay and stand together as a team. Again Trump says no, she has to pick two, so she picks Marilou and Nely. Trump says that Nely should have stepped it up with her television production background and recognized the fact that they were not giving the company what they wanted. Nely comes back after Trump asking him why he keeps bringing up Gene Simmons and how he did not call her back. She said that Gene did it because he respected her talents. Trump gets a bit miffed and tells Nely to get the hell out of there, that she is fired.
OK is it me or does anyone else find it offensive that Trump would speak to one of the celebrities in this manner? Heck, should he be speaking to anyone in this manner? Is he trying to portray his bad-boy, tough guy image for us viewers or is he just a rude person? As I mentioned above, these people are not competing for a job with him. They are competing for charity. Was this really appropriate to speak to Nely in this manner when she is giving up her time trying to raise money for charity? Just my two cents.
