Next Food Network Star: Eddie is Sent Home

Things are getting strange on “The Next Food Network Star.” People are repeating patterns and it must be frustrating for the judges. This week, the challenge was to create a dinner party for 12 people with a budget of just $60 at Ina Garten’s place in the East Hamptons.

The contestant who filmed the best 30 second budget tip while shopping won an advantage in the challenge. Michael completely fell apart and Jamika wanted to kill people by telling them to make a sauce from their marinade. Jeffrey was eventually named the winner.

For winning, he got to chose his partner because *surprise contestants* you have to cook in teams of two now. Each contestant had to cook a separate dish then collaborate on one. Jeffrey chose Michael, who was just having an off week, as his teammate. However, their food pleased the judges. The judges also liked Jeffrey’s presentation, but felt he had to lead Michael, who froze up. However, they were named the winning team.

Debbie and Teddy had chemistry, despite her apprehensions of working with him after he tried to throw Melissa under the bus last week at the judge’s table. They might have been the winning team had Teddy not forgot about the dessert until the last minute and threw together what Bobby Flay felt was a store bought effort. Then, Teddy did the unthinkable! After admitting at the dinner service that the dessert was his, he told the judges that he felt the meatloaf was his dish and the dessert was a collaboration. He did this, of course, after they dissed the dessert and praised the meatloaf. Debbie made the sauce for the meatloaf! I saw Teddy mix it and shape it – hardly an effort! I just couldn’t believe he had the nerve to try to do this. Thankfully, Bobby called him out on it.

Jamika and Katie worked well together, but their styles didn’t mesh and it was obvious to the judges. That and again Katie was preaching the benefits of healthy food, which turned Bob off…again. They told her last week she had to make the food exciting instead of just boring them with how good it is for them. Still, their efforts were enough to save them.

Melissa was teamed with Eddie and she didn’t trust him. She felt he belittled her in the kitchen and after reviewing some of the tape, Bobby Flay agreed. I couldn’t believe when Eddie told the judges that his watermelon, onion, feta cheese salad (yuk!) was from a Paula Deen cookbook. It didn’t make me gasp like I did when Teddy said the meatloaf was his, but still if was pretty cringe worthy.

The bottom two was Eddie and Teddy. Bobby felt Teddy claiming the dessert then recanting and claiming the meatloaf was unforgivable, but Bob felt that Eddie, who has been in the bottom three three weeks in a row, should leave.

In the end, after Teddy apologized to Debbie and cried while waiting on the judge’s decision, Eddie was sent home. Personally, I think Teddy had better be ready to bend over backwards to do whatever he can to be nice and show that he has some integrity or he has no chance at winning.
