Next Food Network Star: Katie Fails the Midterm Exam
The judges kept reminding the “Next Food Network Star” contestants that this was their midterm exam, but only a few of them fared better than a C average. The mini challenge was that each contestant would be assigned a food kids dislike and they had to make it kid friendly. The foods were Brussels sprouts, squid, and tofu. Then, they had to present their dish to the camera.
Debbie and Melissa’s presentations were too long and Michael’s fell too short, but Jamika never even really cooked her dish. She was too busy concentrating on the kids and just barely was mixing her dish when time was called. That just totally freaked her out and she shut down for the rest of the show.
Jeffrey’s presentation was great, but in the elimination challenge, he was paired with Jamika and I think she threw him off a bit. The elimination challenge was to take a kid friendly food, adapt it for adults, and present it on the Rachael Ray show. The remaining six were divided up into teams – Debbie and Katie, Michael and Melissa, and Jeffrey and Jamika. There was just no chemistry between Jeffrey and Jamika. Their food wasn’t good and their presentation was just as bad. One of the judges even said they were an “awkward duo.” Jeffrey seemed manic while Jamika was just frozen for much of it. Debbie and Katie worked together well, but I am so tired of Katie stuffing the health food thing down my throat that her part of the presentation just bored me. Melissa too was a bit manic and Michael froze up for a while, but recovered at the end.
The bottom three was Katie, Jamika, and Michael. The judges see something in Jamika and Michael that just hasn’t been coming out on the screen in the last few weeks. Although Katie did okay this week, she really had to do much more than okay to stick around and the judges decided to send her home.

Jamika or Michael should have gone home, if you base it solely on last night (which they obviously don’t on this show). Katie doesn’t deserve to win the show when you look at the other competitors ONLY not based on her or her talents, but she most certainly wasn’t the weakest performer last night.
