Next Food Network Star: Teddy Leaves
The “Next Food Network Star” quick fire challenge was to create the ultimate burger. Whoever won would have their burger featured on the menu at Bobby Flay’s new restaurant – Bobby’s Burger Palace. Most everyone did well, but Katie cooked a turkey burger (of course). I don’t have anything against turkey burgers and I am sure it would have been good had the judges actually been able to eat it. It was raw in the middle – something you can’t do with turkey. That landed her in the bottom two along with Jamika, who did a Cajun burger with smoked sausage underneath it. The winner was Michael. I was glad to see him win something!
The elimination challenge was to make a homecooked meal aboard the USS Intrepid for military returning home from overseas. The catch was each contestant was assigned a state and had three ingredients for which that state was known that they had to include in the dish. Some contestants got easy stuff, but Jeffrey got stuck with lobster and blueberries. He made a terrible pot pie that Bobby called “surprisingly awful.” Jamika got what seemed like easy ingredients – sausage, beer, and cheese – from Wisconsin, but she blew it when her potatoes wouldn’t cook. She ended up pureeing them and the judges thought they were like glue. Teddy froze up on his presentation and although Katie had a good presentation, her food landed her in the bottom four.
The winner was Melissa. I was confused when she talked about her mother being a lieutenant commander in the Navy when she was growing up, but they lived in the poor section of town. That didn’t seem to make sense to me, but the audience loved both her presentation and food. Michael hit Debbie in the face with a hot sheet, but both did well enough to remain safe.
The judges decided to send Teddy home. He had been hovering near the bottom, but it just makes me wonder how many times they are going to let Katie make them sick with undercooked food, since she served inedible lamb not too long ago.

Way overdue for Teddy to leave. He was as phony as a three dollar bill in front of the camera. And I felt bad for Jamika – she has so much presence in front of an audience and the camera but her food really was weak this time.
