No one is “killed off” I Wanna Be A Soap Star week 2

The second episode of I Wanna Be A Soap Star started with our ten finalists finishing their make out session with a fellow contestant.  The judges were impressed that all of them jumped in without hesitation, but then commented on how a kiss is not just a kiss, that you need to tell a story with it and that the viewers should be able to tell about the relationship between these two characters by that kiss.  Silly me, I thought sucking face was just sucking face but who am I?  I sit in my living room and comment on these ten individuals trying their best to achieve their goals and dreams of being stars on a daytime television show.

The actors are then given their first call sheet – a love scene.  They would have the same partner and were given some time to rehearse the scene before performing for the judges.  Here’s how the contestants ended up being paired off:

Ashlee and Justin
Monica and Travis
Patricia and Corey
Joyce and Bo
Jimena and Yves

It was interesting to watch the contestants work with each other to choreograph the scene.  Looking at some of the men and the women on the show I think that if you were not a consummate professional you could get distracted by the looks.  Then again, all of these contestants are pretty good at their profession or they would not have made it this far.

The contestants finished rehearsal and then went to wardrobe.  All of the men wore the same outfit – a brown velour warm up jacket and black satin boxer shorts, while the women wore a purple trimmed black teddy with thigh high stockings.  If I were asked to wear one of those outfits (or hell, the man’s outfit even) I think I would have had a stroke.  Most of the contestants took the wardrobe in stride, while others were a little thrown off by the lack of clothing.

At first I was confused by the way we saw the contestants perform the scene.  The producers and directors chose not to show the scene in its entirety performed by each team; rather you would see each team at different points in the scene performing the same lines as the others.  As I started to think about it, that made perfect sense to me – it’s hard to compare how one person did versus another unless you see them side by side.  It could be really easy to miss out on some of the nuances that the judges saw if you didn’t see how one compared to the other.

The judges were tough on the contestants, on everyone except Travis that is.  All three of the judges just loved him.  For the rest of the teams, the judges were split.  It was interesting how three individuals in different aspects of the entertainment business could see different parts of each performance.  I liked the fact that everyone spoke their mind, but were not afraid to say that they disagreed and liked someone and gave the reasons why.

In the end the judges decided to not kill anyone off and to keep everyone back for the third episode.  Travis mentioned that this disappointed him as it was a competition and that means someone should be eliminated each week.  I think the fact that he did so well with the judges prompted this response.  If his performance really stunk he would be thanking his lucky stars that everyone was back to fight another week.
